Sleep Study
« on: May 18th, 2005, 12:14pm »

Well I had my sleep study finally.  I went in at 7pm on Monday night, and I did the initial test until 7am the next morning.  Yesterday I did the daytime nap test, and then last night I did another sleep study.  Came home this morning and slept like 4 more hours - something tells me the study wore me out!

The first night, I was certain I would crash, but then I didn't get to sleep until around 4:30am or so.  Tossing and turning all night...it was frustrating.  No signs of apnea - more than enough signs of restless leg syndrome, which I already knew I had.

During the nap test - I really hated that test!  I'd have to be awake and sitting up, and then I could sleep for 30 minutes...there were 4 of these tests at 10am, noon, 2pm, and 4pm.  I think I slept for 2 out of 4, but maybe I slept for more than that - it was hard to tell because it's such a short test.

Then I had to stay up until 10pm.  That wasn't pleasant because I had to sit in a chair - and I'm having problems with that with my AVN - so I just kept my legs up on a pillow on the bed.  Mostly I was just extremely tired.

The tech who was setting me up last night said it was a shame that I hadn't really slept the night before so that they could get an accurate sleep study - but if I never sleep, isn't that pretty accurate? LOL

So then...I finally crashed last night.  I just finished a year long nursing program, and I hadn't slept at all, so I fell asleep within 15 minutes of lying down, and I slept until they woke me up at 5:30am.  Even though I know I slept about 7 hours, I still felt like I only slept 5 minutes.

The tech (same one all night) said this morning that she was surprised I didn't wake up at all, and that they'll probably look at this test and say, "Why did we even do this?"

So which is it???  I don't get the results until the 31st.  Whether I didn't sleep or slept like a rock - neither one gives a good picture?  I dunno...odd.  That's part of my problem though - I'm always bouncing between never sleeping and then crashing when my body can't take it!  It may be that I'm just unusual because the majority of people there are being tested for apnea and titrated on a bipap or c-pap.  They had my 2nd night scheduled for that, but I don't have an apnea problem at all.

So I guess we'll see what they say on the 31st!  I just want to sleep in a normal pattern!

Because I was so tired, I came home and went right back to sleep - I need to go get all this crap out of my hair in a few!  Yeah fun!

Ex2,

I think they did a better job with the goo last night.  I just finally had the ability to get up and get a shower (Dave is on his way down with the crutches LOL), and it was much easier to wash out than yesterday!!!

Kinda funny story though - yesterday after the daytime nap test, they gave me one measly little towel and a papertowel-esque wash cloth, a bottle of this no rinse shampoo, and directed me to the bathroom.

Well don't ask me how I got the shower on, but once I got it on, I couldn't change it from freezing cold (I tried...and even tried to tolerate the shower!), and I couldn't get it OFF!!!  The whole place had water everywhere!!

So I wound up washing my hair in the sink - the guy had left the tape in, which is partially why it was so hard to get out.

But..as payback, he had to go in and try to get the shower off.  Poor guy really!  I think he was drenched by the time he got out of there, and he still had to call maintenance!!

When I told my night tech, she said someone had complained about that in the morning....  Guess nobody passed that along!  haha

LMAO can you imagine ME with a shaved head?  No...just don't even go there.

As it turns out, I didn't get it all out.  Dave and I just went to get some ice cream - yeah it was fun hobbling down the street without ever actually learning how to use crutches except for about an hour in nursing school!  While we were sitting there he said, "OMG what's in your hair??"  Turns out while I was in the shower...as much as I was scrubbing at my hair, I missed two big globs on the sides.

However, it's also tough to get out because I have really curly hair...what a tangled mess!

I couldn't imagine me in a sleep study......naps.....NEVER HAPPENS ! I hate bed time cuz I do NOT want to go to bed but usually end up so burnt out from not letting myself 'wear down' I end up feeling lousey and then is when I KNOW I am physically tired. A sleep study for me would require a hammer every scheduled sleep time. I sleep or rest sitting up for the most part anyhow (back shit) and would be rite at home with that part. I'd have panic attacks all nite worryin bout the stupid test stuff and haveing to go have it done and be around a GANG of strangers.....I'd be irritable as hell and the hammer would come into play again for the techs. (tee-hee) I move every 5 minutes sleeping......I'd be bound and gagged by the wires....they'd need to cut me free. And no way does no rinse shampoo go in MY hair.....blech !! I'd need about 5 bottles of it anyhow. With restless leg....is that were your calves have spasm's lookin similar to baby puppies rolling around inside the mom. Mine do that 24/7. Active for life Pam

My neuro recommended me for another sleep study. HA! This should be fun. I can't sleep as it is, let alone looking like a fucked up android with five million wires attached to me. The real bitch of it will be if I DO fall asleep, awaking with a CH with five million fucking wires hanging off of me.
Apparently my second round with shrooms a few weeks back did nada, and am working on getting more again very soon. As it is right now - I have literally lost track of how many days it has been since I slept.
And yet I am still strangely alert. Getting ready for the umpteenth round of  night terrors here. Fibro has gone haywire and yada yada. Feel like death over-warmed.

Peace & winks,
Carl D

Hey e2, if you're a hairy mo fo like me, that shit is just harsh when they remove it. My melon comes pre-shaven. So that part is coo.   Wink

I'm still avoiding sleep study stuff....have been somewhat of an insomniac since I can first remember !! And with my hair and all them wires and goo and how I gotta move around every 5 minutes and have cycles of nitemares and strange vivid dreams I would look like a human fur ball. Yak bait Pam

Have been haveing dreams about TONS of crickets fileing out of stuff in waves.....one was where the bike wouldn't start and all of a sudden hunderds filed out of the exhaust pipe ? WTF....I can USUALLY figure out dreams and there reasons behind them but not this one. Last nite I dreamp't my knee hurt so bad I could not walk and was crippled with the pain......huh........my brain should know by now WHAT parts really hurt without makein stuff up. Lets not add to the pile.
