LIVE 'di-section'

There's a school around here that is goin to start doin LIVE disections on dogs so the students can learn more and see the digestive system in operation and other organs. I think it is APPAULLING unless they are saveing the animal and sewing it back up nicely and sending him on a one month paid vaction. I realize it would be helpful to witness the body in motion.....but this doesn't set well with me. Some have a stronger will to live.....they may be semi concious knowing sumthin is WRONG.....imagine that happening and man's best friend with the scalple. Wake me up when it's over rover Pam PS: From the way they talked there is no life after disection......it's over when there done ! That jus sounds aweful to me.

Good grief! How do people like that sleep at night?? That kind of cruelty goes on all the time and it sickens me. I'm not exactly a PETA type, but they have a few valid complaints. Can someone give me just 5 minutes with one of those people?

Is this a medical school? I would hate to see any dog sewn back up and saved after this. I'm all for medical research, but I would certainly hope the dogs were WELL sedated, and then put out of their misery after the surgery was over. I wouldn't be surprised to see them sewn back up to see how they recover, then operate again. I mean, why not install a fucking zipper? I hope these aren't veterinarians. At the University of Illinois, they operate on the cows they are researching, putting like a jar without a bottom in their sides, with a screw on lid, so they can see in the cows stomachs. So they can see how the food digests. So they can do better research on the feed for farm animals. These "jar" things are big enough to get two hands in. Research... They won't get my dogs. Pam, what school is this exactly?

It was on the local news last nite.....kept missing the name of the school but they inteview'd kids about it that thought it was a cool thing to do and they were all high school age. They talked to the teacher and he said he wanted to do it as part of his class health study. I DOUBT there is any plans on saveing the animal cuz they are goin to DISECT it .....imagine it ment goin in to watch the stomach in action ect and look around (yeah after feeding it a good meal or what ?) and can't see how they would keep sewing it back up tho to redo NEXT class. The animals body would only be able to take so much of it open like that for so long.......can't see em haveing tubes and life support ect ect to keep it alive for the duration. So I took it they would do whatever they did and call it a nite.....lights out. The story should be on one of our local news stations online that cover'd it but I don't have time to search it at the moment. It was on 2 different times yesturday. Alot of parents are protesting it. I'm not a protestor type but I think I could toss a few picket signs up the principles ass that lets this go on......soon kids will be doin discections for sport.......and perfer it over Play Station. (yeah rite) We have the live cow research deal in town at OARDC.....with the open window into the stomach you can go view. Teachin kids how to instructionally kill Pam

Back when I was doing research at the headache center, my friend and I were allowed to go down to the scientific lab one day because they were doing rat brain surgery. This huge rat was hooked up to "rat life support" - They cut its scalp off and threw it in the red bag trash (biohazard bag). That part alone almost made me pass out. I know it's just a rat, but I didn't like seeing them throw out the scalp. So then I had to stand there for quite some time and watch this rat on the 'rat life support' and they were doing stuff to its brain, then cauterizing it, etc. Finally I left - I wanted to puke. I have since watched live human brain surgery and done just fine. I think it's cuz they don't throw the scalp in the trash. That really threw me. LOL Lizzie

In the medical feild especialy emergancy medicine they have what they call dog labs. In these they have dogs that were either left at the dog pound or where ever. Dont really know for sure where they come from. They actually injure the animals and then let the students pratice on them. Such as putting in chest tubes cardiac tapanodes. This type of class is not for the weak of heart or people who really love there animals, it seems cruel and inhumane. Also in the military they hit goats with sarin gas and then give the animal the same antidote that humans use. The thought behind the goats is that it will help build confidence in the equipment we use. But also on these same goats they show the class how painful of a death sarin and other types of gas can be.

| Ew they do not do this at our school. We learn in the trauma or ER setting....practice one, see one, do one style... Every student (med and nursing) as well as all the residents, new nurses, etc - are very closely supervised by docs and nurses with more experience. Everything I've learned in nursing school I've either learned on a dummy or a patient in the hospital/community health setting - and I've never done anything I didn't feel comfortable doing - always with lots of supervision! I'm glad they didn't make us practice on animals But we do have Sim Man...he's about a $10,000 piece of crap. LOL

Guess it was a news story that shouldn't of been public.......either way it sounds strange......wonder how the students seen the digestive track without it being cut open ? I wonder if they stuck around to watch it die ? That should of been mandatory as 'part of it'.......the way the news story was on tv it was 'talking it up' and kind of a gross thing to hear or think about dureing dinner. Plus I jus wonder how many of the kids that were part of it are seriously goin to be in the medical field......maybe they should save this sort of thing for med students ? The media sure had a field day stickin this on dureing prime time. I'm mean and hope not to be disected Pam
