Despite what the media would have you believe support for the war is evident now across the globe by the re-election of 3 leaders Bush, Blair, Howard. Being a surrender monkey ala Spain will get you booted from office. Would love to see the reaction in Iran this evening

At 04:50 UK local time 566 of the 646 constituencies had been counted. Current results: Labour 333 loss 39 Conserves 169 gain 26 Liberals 52 gain 10 Others 12 gain 3 Forecasts for Labor majority: 66, dropped from 167 I agree with Nots, an overwhelming vote of support for the British Iran engagement. The minor Labor losses are surely due to the fact that under the current Labour government foxhunting was prohibited.

Iraq was not a big issue with the British voters, though it did cost Blair and the Labor party some votes as Ueli pointed out. As Iraq was not a major issue, the Brits voted their pocketbook, reaffirming the old algorithm of democracy: If (Economy = Good) then relect incumbent Else throw incumbent out End If Also, I suggest you re-read Spanish history, NotS .... the person who was booted out of office in the last election there was the one who supported the Spanish presence in Iraq. The party that won was for dis-entangling itself from the mess. Don't know what the Iranians are thinking, but Gallup gives us an indication of what the American public is thinking: Quote: May 05, 2005 Americans' Views of the Iraq War Sour President Bush's approval ratings on Iraq hold steady at 42% by Joseph Carroll Americans' responses to three key measures about the war in Iraq continue a downward trend after showing temporary improvement following the Iraq elections in late January. Fifty-seven percent of Americans now say it was not worth going to war in Iraq. A majority of Americans also say things are going badly for the United States in Iraq. The public is more divided as to whether or not it was a mistake to send troops to Iraq. President George W. Bush's job approval rating on Iraq has settled back down to the low 40% range, which is among the worst of his presidency. http://www.gallup.com/poll/content/login.aspx?ci=16162 |

A lot of Americans like Tony over here (sounds like you'd like him over here too) and it began before the 9-11 mess and the war. Seriously, watching John Major on C-SPAN wasn't exactly heart-stopping. Tony at least gets their circulation going. I watched the returns on CSPAN live for some time. Tony, and the others were yakking at 3:00 am I guess. Looks like Labor did indeed take a beating. Still, who did you want? Michael Howard? zzzzz I loved watching the results from Wales. What a trip Charlie
