CH and personality/habits changes

I've been thinking a lot about this lately, and am curious as to whether it's just me or ch sufferers are similar. My father (now deceased) was a fussy, tidy man, a creature of routine. For most of my life I was the opposite: thriving on spontaneity, chaos, and mess. Since clusters (1985) I find myself more and more like my father. I thrive on order and predictability. I like my routine to stay the same. Of course, there is a psychological explanation to cover this, however, this is my cluster theory: Cluster is often capricious and unpredictable. A drug works one time and not another. A cycle ends and you don't know if it was the DHE, the steroids, the verapamil, or if it just ran out of steam. Basically we live with excruciating pain that cannot be controlled (much) by our actions. It seems a natural retreat under the circumstances to structure the rest of you life with predictability, cause/effect, and the illusion that you have control over the part of your life not dominated by headaches. Am I way off base here, or do you read something that resonates?

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Ditto to Don. The older I get, the less I like any changes in my daily routine. Kind of like my cat. He pisses on the wall whenever something in the house changes. I don't piss on the wall, but I do get pissed off! Kris

I, too, think it's more of an age factor. My Dad was much like yours. He had certain ways to do things...never varied from his normal routines. When I was younger...I loved chaos....and loved creating it. However, age changes all of us, whether we want to admit it or not. CH definitely changes things...but for me, I don't think my desires for things to be orderly are a product of CH. Of course, that's not to say that it's not the reason for you. I changed things long before I had CH. The death of my Dad...was a time in my life when I realized that nothing is forever. I hate to admit this, but I honestly thought he would always be here for me. I never even came close to thinking I would be without him. I was still a lover of chaos at that time...and I think I got a quick lesson in reality. I realized that order and routines were not so bad. I spent alot of time questioning every thing I did. I found myself asking...if I was doing things the way Daddy would want me to. Guess this sounds a bit silly ...but at the time, this was important to me...knowing that I was doing things right. Eleven years have passed....and I am still the same way. I was in my mid forties when my Dad died, and as I've aged, I realize that his way was not so bad after all. CH just plain pisses me off...that's the only thing in my life that's chaotic. Jean

I don't have that clear routines, but since ch started I've turned to a cleaning freak... I need to have order in my surroundings. I wasn't a messy marvin before, but I was more relaxed. Now seeing a mess at my flat I just snap and I'll clean it even if it's my flatmate's turn.
