Feeling guilty

Felling guilty I just had to call in at work today. I am having sever shadows since 6 AM and I tried O2 and it hasn't helped and its not enough to need Imitrex just yet. Here is the problem one of the other nurses got screwed for today and her request to be given time to work on restorative care and was redirected to come in today at 6pm to 10 pm and do nursing so another nurse could go home and study for an exam (could care less about the second nurse I hope she has to stay now). Its the other one that got screwed now she has to cover for me. I feel so bad emotionally and physically. I keep bouncing back and forth should I call back and just struggle thru work or what? Ok I am done...PF wishes to you all...Kim

Get your ass to work, don't sit there and let the beast get you. You work as a nurse so if you get hit, there is plenty of O2 available. You can't start down that road. Get in the shower and go.

A nurse in a nursing home is a big difference. No O2 on the wall and no regulators go as high as we use for the tanks and I don't have one to boot. I wish it were that easy. I am not giving in I just really hurt and its not stopping.

My 2 cents…I would stay home. Sometimes you just have to. They’ll work it out at work. And you’ll just have to pick up the slack for someone else one day when they’re sick and not feeling well enough to get to work. It’s the way of life. Don’t feel guilty, stay home and get the rest you need, so you can have some energy to fight the beast tomorrow. I don’t about you, but I also get hit when I’m overly tired. It’s one thing to keep busy to keep the beast at bay, but the beast relishes in kicking your ass when you’re overly tired. Langa

Thanks Langa, I already called but was told that a nurse would be in at 5pm and one was staying late and that would make three nurses and if I can't make it then I can go at that time. Two nurses can cover the building. At least I can help so they aren't short and I won't feel so bad when I come to work tomorrow. Its not like I am dying. Oh this makes me so damn made. I hate being in this situation. Grrrrrrrr.

Always make that attempt to go in! This way you have control! If you need to leave or excuse yourself to abort that is what you have to do and is much more professional (not knocking just stating my opinion)..... It's hard for all of us!! When one works in health/mentalhealth/or direct care sometimes we get that feeling of the weight of the world is on our shoulders because we advocate for everyone but ourselves........Self-preservation is key for you (and I) to help others BUT by giving in we just perpetuate the depression....That is what will get you more than the CH pain. Go kick ass and stay strong Eric

Kim, no matter what you do, DON'T feel guilty. I know some folkes (including my family) will tell us that "it's just headache", but it's not. It's a medical condition 99.99% of the people will never have to know about (lucky them). I used to feel guilty about everything, too. Once major ch attack (we're talking about kip 9 here) forced me to leave interesting lecture during the break. I just couldn't take it! And once I was sent home after I nearly fainted before a class begun (thanks, vermin). I felt guilty on both times when it happened. But now, looking back, I understand that it was for the better. If you go work today, do it with pride, with or without shadows. You're a good person and great at your job. If you weren't, you would not have posted that message in the first place. Now relaxed and kick shadows' ass! Best wishes, your ch sister Sandie
