Charlie posted this in the “location” thread:

Actually, it would be fun. I've always wanted to take a train one way. It might be nice vacation.

Well, I am going to be doing that (only round trip)!  I will be driving up to Massachusetts, and then meeting my father, three sisters, and their husbands, and we hop on a train to go to my brother’s wedding in Willits, California!  Seems to me, we change trains in Chicago, and then head to the coast.  Then on the way back, we will spend a day in Portland, Oregon (hope to see some clusterheads, and supporters, while there - - Kirk Cathi and how about you, Ruth?) then back to Chicago and then Worcester, Massachusetts.  The whole thing will take us about 2 weeks.

Has anyone ever done this?  If so, how was it?  Is it true most trains are non-smokers?  Fortunately, I can bring up to 6 “E” tanks of oxygen with me!  I think I will have to get them refilled somewhere.  The way I go through oxygen, I KNOW those six piddling little tanks will not last me two weeks!  Hell, four BIG tanks sometimes don’t last two weeks!

Just curious if anyone has ever done this.

Geeze Chuck!

Yer gonna have some fun. I've ridden trains to NY and Chicago only. It would be fun even though we have trains that crawl compared to elsewhere. I hope the cross country runs are still decent. I saw a cable program on the coast run from LA to Seattle. That looks like lots of fun.

Have a good time Cjiuck. I'm envious.
