be prepared, traveling change

Just perhaps a head start for anyone planning cool vacations next year. The new US government rules are going to require all passengers who are planning sea or air travel to the Caribbean, Bahamas or Bermuda to be allowed to travel there by only by having a valid passport starting January 2006. After that, no birth certificates with accompanying picture ID will be accepted. All cruise lines and air carriers will be needing to see valid passports to be able to board any ship or plane which stops in a non US port of call. Up to this time, the Bahamas accepted passports as long as they were not more than five years outdated. No longer soon. This new rule will be in effect starting January 1st 2006. Suggest to apply for one as soon as possible if you plan travel like this next near. There will be a rush and long backlog of future travelers who apply at the end of the year and a long wait may stress your patience and maybe impair your plans if you do not have one in time for when it will be needed. When this is more publically known, a flurry of passports will be needed and it is best to cover your butt early. As for tax returns, yer on your own. Kevin M

What. I got a passport (my first) last November, right after the elections. Totka's looking for a nice place to retire near Budapest. We all have our own country, but it's just one planet. Let's do lunch. Quote: As for tax returns, yer on your own. |

I thought you always had to have a passport. If not, then why did anyone ever bother getting one at all? LOL I've only been to Canada and Mexico, so what do I know? hehe L2

| Most countries require them, except the US and it looks like we might oughta all make sure we have one in the US now. In the past you could get back across the border from Mexico with a DL, but they're changing that also. No more day trips to Juraz without one. Thanks Kevin -- mine is expired and I've been MEANING to renew it, but....... guess I will now -- might need to go to OK or somewhere like CA Good advice --- thanks Hugs BD

I just renewed mine. My old one was in sad shape. The lady at the passport photo center looked at it and said, "What did you DO to this thing?" I said, "Flip it open and find out." LOL -Travelin' Man

Pisses me off. I noticed that passports are $85 at the post office. I resent paying that to see the Canadian side of Niagara Falls now. There is no comparison either. So far the 21st century and I have issues. Charlie

you don't need a passport travelling by car till 2008 or something like that. everyone else, quit your whining about passports, just get one. It is easy and the cost is minor compared do what you can do with one. every other country has to have one to travel.

| *Thanks Jonny for the PSA. This happened to me in Philly last month. I thought they were joking. Uh, nope. I was glad I only had a POS/cheapy lighter on me. *Thanks also to Kevin_M for your PSA. I won't be going [probably ever] on trips that this would apply, but thanks just the same. Thanks again Gents. | I'll do all the whining I want. A passport to see the falls should piss off everyone, including Canadians. On that note, Bush has been rethinking the passport idea. It's not good for business. That's all it takes. Keep tabs on this kids. Charlie

Passports are becoming a necessity for travel. Last year, on a trip to Victoria, BC, we had NO problem getting into Canada, however, upon returning, the US Border Patrol guy was NOT happy with our standard forms of ID..as I presented my driver's license, he stated, "Maam..that gives you nothing but the right to drive in Oregon". He eventually let us pass into the US. As for foreign countries, we just returned from the Caribbean-Immigration is becoming time-consuming without a passport. As for us, I doubt we will ever again let ours lapse. Just seems more logical.
