Last Night, Way Past Midnight, PD and DD were...

…..discussing how most women with CH seem to be of strong mind and character. This would be defined as being confident-intellectually, physically, and sexually. Being authoritative, having above average intelligence and having an independent nature. Being self sufficient, and knowing her own mind, and speaking her own mind. Meticulous. Not putting up with or taking any crap from anyone or anything. Being a woman and still being a lady.

Some questions for the women.
1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?

7. How do you feel about this idea?

For the men.
1. Do you like strong women (per the above definition)? If you do, why? If not, why not?

2. Do you find strong women intimidating or unattractive?  Is your spouse (for the married men) a strong woman?

3. If your spouse doesn’t fit the definition, was that one of the reasons you intentionally picked them?

4. Do you feel you can open up more (emotionally or otherwise) to a lady with these characteristics?

5. How do you feel about this idea of strong ladies?

Your honesty is very much appreciated.

Some questions for the women.
1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?   I've always been a strong person.

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with? Not really. Except my mother.

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not? I have more women friends now than when I was younger. I just couldn't understand the game playing that some women feel they have to do. I'm pretty straightforward.

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?   Yes, I find it much easier to communicate with men. And yes, I like to do "guy" things, always have, always will.

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position? I am the assitant manager at a local branch of an international industrial supply company.

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not? Yes, I do all my own stuff, and I have all my own tools. I worked in several construction trades when I was younger, I enjoy working with my hands. Now, I get to use my brain a little more.

7. How do you feel about this idea? True. My women friends are all strong people too, and we support each other. Nice.

1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?

My mother has always used the terms bossy and hard-headed to describe me...so I think I have always been strong, in MOST situations.  I think being strong has enabled me to deal with my CH much better than if I were weak or whiney.

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?

YES.  I've been in more trouble because I am not afraid to speak my mind or to become a "yes" person at work on more occasions than I care to admit to.  It doesn't work too well in my love life either, sometimes.  And sometimes it has disasterous results!  But most people, once they get to know me, realize that it is just the way I am...and they deal with it!  LOL   laugh

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?

No.  I never have.  I never was one to hang out with the foo-foo girls and do the mall thing.  All my room mates when I was single were guys.  Most of them platonic relationships, and we got along just fine.

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?

On some subjects, yes.  Guys offer a more "black and white" opinion on some matters.  I like to talk to men...they are interesting and offer new perspective on things.  I talk to women about "mom" issues regarding kids...oh and about men Wink.  As far as "guy things"  I like to shoot hoops, paintball guns and fix computers (not strictly a guy thing I know) and fix stuff that is broken, whether it be the vacuum cleaner, garbage disposal or the car.  I used to street race in San Antonio (and was pretty good at it too!)

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?

Right now I sell Durable Medical Equipment and I am an account manager.  I have always been promoted to management at any job I ever had.  I don't want/like being a peon...I just tolerate it long enough to learn the job and move on up!

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?

I LOVE to work on cars...I got all my experience watching the neighborhood guys growing up and have even taught my younger brothers the basics.  My dream is to restore an old Camaro.  I have already done one, and wrecked it...when the kids get older and I get richer I will do another!  Just don't ask me about my air pressure in my tires...I seem to forget about that sometimes!

7. How do you feel about this idea?

I think that the women I have met on this board who have CH (and some of the supporters, too!) are all very strong ladies.  We have to be...the beast is in our heads and our homes.  Have to be strong to keep fighting and to win!

Just my  twocents,

I am anxious to see y'alls responses!!

1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?

I've always been this way.  CH was just another hurdle to jump in this dog eat dog world.  I'm a replica of my Father.

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?

Only those that don't know me well and my intentions.

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?

Not really.  I never was into the slumber parties, etc. and the past 20 years have been spent on my business and tending to my family and critters.

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?

Depends upon the subject but usually easier to talk to men.  Most all my hobbies are "guy" things in many people's eyes.....trout fishing, big time spectator of ice hockey, armchair quarterback,   In my younger days I broke horses and spent many nights rodeoing.

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?

Founder/CEO of national transportation company.  Would prefer to be a trout fishing guide.

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?

Yep.  check the oil?  I have changed the shocks, oil, repacked bearings and maintained lots of farming equipment.

7. How do you feel about this idea?

It will be interesting to see the traits of other ch men and women.

Yes.  I like a woman who knows her own mind and is not afraid to go after something she wants.  I don't have the time, the temperment or the desire to support someone else's frail ego.  I have no need for a Polly perfect tits not wanting to wrinkle her dress.

2.      Do you find strong women intimidating or unattractive?  Is your spouse (for the married men) a strong woman?

No.  Probably more than most, but not as much as she or I would like.

3.      If your spouse doesn’t fit the definition, was that one of the reasons you intentionally picked them?

Situations, preferences and temperments change as we mature.  Besides, you can't question love.

4.      Do you feel you can open up more (emotionally or otherwise) to a lady with these characteristics?

As opposed to other women, yes.  As opposed to a man, depends on the man and the topic.

5.      How do you feel about this idea of strong ladies?

See #1 above.  Would rather spend my time with someone sees herself as my equal and who ain't afraid to get her hands dirty.

Your honesty is very much appreciated.

1.      Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?

Life has made me stronger not CH. I was a cowbag long before I had this! I think every time you conquer one little fear it gives you the strength to move onto another until eventaully things may daunt you.. but you have it in you to find a way around everything. Sometimes you just need a kick up the arse little reminder though!

2.      Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?

Some do. The people I manage to say no to don't like it much! I'm pretty easy going most of the time but push me too far and you'll know it.

3.      Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not? I have a lot of female friends now. I didn't so much when I was younger because I too couldn't stand "playing the game". As I've got older I've realised the greatest weapon (bad) men have against women is other women and I won't be one of those weapons. I have alot of male friends too but in general, I'm more comfortable with women. ( No Hirv.. NOT like that you bugger!! Wink )

4.      Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things? I don't find it easier to talk to men at all. I'm much more wary talking to men than women. I like doing guy things though. I can bolt an exhaust on a hovercraft engine faster than David LOL and I love learning how to fibreglass etc. (But I really like making cakes too!)

5.      What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position? I work in Debt Management for Capital One, helping people manage debt (NOT just recovering money! I spend more time helping those who can't pay  and discussing financial aid with them!) I'm also largely involved in training new staff and re-training/implementing new procedures. I love my job!

6.      Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?

I have done in the past, not so much now as I have a crappy bone disease and I break bones quite easily. I broke my ribs shutting the car door before! (stupid story!) I do check my oil/water/easy jobs. I have changed tyres, exhausts, spark plugs etc in the past. Women need to. Its a safety issue as much as anything and I'll make sure my daughter can. (back in the good old days I used to immobilise my car each night by taking out the rotor arm! Modern cars aren't as much fun!)

7. How do you feel about this idea?

I think its a great idea. I hate being dependant on anyone. I think it will be interesting to see the views of the other ladies here across the age range. At 20 I was a different person to now. I would have answered quite differently. I was much more comfortable with men back then. As I have grown into an old bat I've learnt to be comfortable in my own skin and make no excuses for it. If I want to do guy things fine, I will! But equally I'm proud of my "feminine" hobbies like cooking and embroidery too. There is space for everything in my life except stupid labels.

Know yourself. Like yourself. If you don't who else can?

Thanks DD and PD!

1. Do you like strong women (per the above definition)? If you do, why? If not, why not?

Yes. I like women who can stand on their own two feet, who have their own interests, dreams, and the daring to pursue them, as well as having confidence and independence.

2. Do you find strong women intimidating or unattractive?  Is your spouse (for the married men) a strong woman?

I find strong women VERY appealing.

3. If your spouse doesn’t fit the definition, was that one of the reasons you intentionally picked them?

4. Do you feel you can open up more (emotionally or otherwise) to a lady with these characteristics?

Yes, because they are willing to understand and listen, rather than trying to "poor baby" me to death.

5. How do you feel about this idea of strong ladies?

I wish more women were like this, and I think it's a terrible crime that women are shut down by society, rather than being shown how valuable their specific strengths are. It's sad that a lot of women feel that they have to compete with men or become masculine in order to be seen or validated.

1. Do you like strong women (per the above definition)? If you do, why? If not, why not?

Yes I do. A strong woman wont take my shit, I am hard to put up with. Life is hard enough without haveing to rush home from work to kill a spider.  ( ive done it dont laugh).

2. Do you find strong women intimidating or unattractive?  Is your spouse (for the married men) a strong woman?

I do find a strong personality attractive in a woman. When I first got married my wife was meek, it took me years to toughen her up. She has gone from a very dependent person to a very independent person.I have also raised my daughter to be independent, I pity the poor bastard she marries, she took the idea and ran with it.

3. If your spouse doesn’t fit the definition, was that one of the reasons you intentionally picked them?

Mary and I met on a Friday and got married the next Friday. 11 years and still no regrets. We fight very little and mostly when we do it is because of her phobias. Since   we have gotten married she has overcome many of them. Still working on the swimming and high places ones. She gets stronger every day. The reason we got married is that we were made for each other, I've never met a woman before or since that I want to be with more.

4. Do you feel you can open up more (emotionally or otherwise) to a lady with these characteristics?

Its easier to open up to a strong woman, because you dont have to protect her as much. If you tell a meeker woman that you worried about something, then you worry about her too.

5. How do you feel about this idea of strong ladies?

Who wants a woman that walks behind them with their head held low? I want one that will stand beside me with their head held high.

Yes. I love strong women. I respect self-will and courage most of all.

2. Do you find strong women intimidating or unattractive?  Is your spouse (for the married men) a strong woman?

Nope. I find them very attractive. Yes, my wife is a very strong woman.

n/a

4. Do you feel you can open up more (emotionally or otherwise) to a lady with these characteristics?

Yes. Being able to open up and, by extention, depend upon and seek support from a person with a strong personality is much easier.

5. How do you feel about this idea of strong ladies?

I have always been attracted to strong women. And despite the fact that my wife is teh hot, I did not marry her because she looks good in a french bikini (OK, part of it was that), but because she is her own person with a remarkably quick mind and a resolve that often startles me. She keeps me on my toes.

1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?

For my life, I have always been stronger than the majority of my peers.  As I have grown and experienced more and more in life the stronger I have become.  CH is just one more life challenge that has added to my strength.

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?

Many have, definately.  Living in the area I have for the majority of my life, strong minded women are a sort of enigma, and it is very intimmidateing to the more conservative male population.   Yes they admire it for a time, but it has appeard to me that in time it becomes a factor that they make all attempts to quell when they recognise the ability to out perform them, thereby becoming a threat to them.

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?

Just one.  My best friend since Highschool. Sue.  The one outstanding feature of our friendship is because she is NOT as strong in charactor as I am, and it is her ability to draw some of that strength from me in her times of need.

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?

I do find it easier to talk with men most of the time.  The company I work at right now has silenced me quite a bit on that respect as it is the most gender biased place I have ever EVER experienced in all my days.  I do like to fish, camp (although my allergies to insect bites tends to minimize that activity), ride motor cycle, watch the Packers play on Sunday.  Relationship wise I have found that being a strong charactor is attractive to men innitially, however that quickly changes to intimmidation when they find that they cannot just trump my opinions and beliefs because they simply don't agree and I don't just back down.  Sometimes the qualities that draw two people together are the same ones that become the mitigating factor in the discord down the road.

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?

This is the ONLY company I have worked for that I have slid backwards in my standing.  I began in sales and was contracting more new clients than the Sales Manager.  Numerous carrots were dangled to tie me to the place, and not once did any promise ever come to fruition.  This is the first place I have ever worked that I didn't move quickly into a managerial position.  They do exploit my skills, pour the most uncollectable client accounts on my lap, use my analitical skills to pick apart individual accounts, and my ethics to be the reporter of record to the largest of the credit bureaus.

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?

Oh hell yeah, I've done alot of that.  When I have the time that is.  Alot of my inability to do many of the things on my own is due to restrictions placed by the the landlords on what can and cannot be done on the property.

7. How do you feel about this idea?

I feel that the ladies here at CH.com are some of the strongest and loveliest women I know.  I'm proud to call them friends and family and should the beast ever loose any of our addresses, I an confident that the friendships we have forged will live on.  Love you all!

Some questions for the women.
1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?

Always strong...since I was a fetus.  I didn't have to fight for my rights, happiness, or anything until much later than that, but I think the strength was an inborn quality. Smiley

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?

YES!!  Enuff said. Smiley

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?

Not really.  Just one or two.  But it isn't really a male/female thing...I don't have a ton of close friends.  I have my select few.  But I also keep to myself a lot.  My one best friend calls me a hermit, but I like me that way.  Grin

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?

I do have more close guy friends than girl friends.  I've always been that way.  And the other day, my boyfriend expressed his complete shock and amazement that I knew most of the top 25 rankings for the NCAA march madness tournament, and I had spent the entire day on ESPN.com while watching b-ball games with my dad.  I love sports. Smiley

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?

Work?   laugh  I'm still working on the work thing.  Let's say I've worked myself up the hospital ladder from volunteer in patient transport, to dietary aide, to patient registrar, to assistant researcher, to nurse extern which is where I stand now.  In a few months I will be once again at the bottom of the nursing chain as a graduate nurse, but I plan to go all the way to get my nurse practitioner.  Hell if I feel like it, some day I will also go back and get my degrees in law and medicine.  I know no glass ceiling. 6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?

No!  I don't play with cars.  I know how to drive my car, but that's about it.  Unlike some of my girl nursing friends, I am not afraid to drive on the Schuylkill expressway or into the worst parts of West Philly...but if my car were to get a flat in one of these places...well, that's what AAA is for!!  I know how to hammer holes in the walls to hang pictures.  I have my own tool kit.  It is called, "Ladies Tool Kit" and all the tools are pink.  Yes, this is one area of my life where I have held onto my feminity.

7. How do you feel about this idea?

I love to see strength in anyone...male or female.  I love to see people take responsibility for their own lives.  If life gets tough, you don't just roll over in your own grave.  Shit no.  Get up and fight!  Get mad if you have to, but never give up...ever.  Strength and determination are qualities I value in every single person around me...especially here! 1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?  I've always been strong, but I've had CH since I was 16, so it probably helped add to it.

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?
No, not really. I think I'm also pretty reasonable.

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?
Yes, quite a few...

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?
I pretty much find it easy to talk to anyone. I like some guy things and dislike some women things.

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?
Right now, I only work part time, when I want to. Wherever I have worked full time, I've ended up in management.

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?
I can, but wont anymore.

7. How do you feel about this idea?
CH is often called the executive headache, so are CH women more driven than other women already...or does CH make us stronger? Hmmm....I don't know.

1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?

No - mostly because of therapy and my job (probably my age, too).

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with?

Not really. Most people are pretty supportive, even if they don't understand it.

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?

Yep. I haven't been to a convention, so I don't have close friends here.

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?

Depends on the person - either gender. Not sure about the "guy" thing. I do some things that my mother thinks is "guy" (putting in my own floor).

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?

Education. I do a lot of leadership things in that capacity.

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?

Oh yea.

7. How do you feel about this idea?

I suppose it's kind of intriguing - if social characteristics are common in c/h women. I really don't think my being a strong woman has much to do with c/h, but who knows?

1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?
I have always been pretty strong in facing life's challenges and facing my fears.

 2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with
Not the people who matter most to me. I don't care as much as I used to what people think of me.

 3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not? Only a few CLOSE friends, but meaningful.  Probably because of answer #2.

 4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things?
It really depends on the person, male or female.  I find it easiest talking to people who aren't afraid to speak their honest opinions and show who they really are.  That's rare in both sexes.  Guy things?...not really, but I also am not into stereotypical "girl things".

 5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?
I am a self-employed artist, and also do investing.

 6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?
I could fix a flat tire if I was truly desparate (haven't needed to yet), I do home repairs quite a bit and routine checks on my car.

1. Have you always been strong, or is this something that has come about because of CH?
Always been strong, CH made me stronger.

2. Do the people in your life find it hard to deal with? No.

3. Outside of CH.com do you have or have you ever had many close female friends. If no, why not?  No...not many....2 very close female friends.  Why not?  With women, I've noticed a lot of competition whether career wise or other areas of my life.  Mostly, my friends are male.

4. Do you find it easier to talk with men? Do you like doing “guy” things? Yes.  Yes.

5. What kind of work do you do? Are you in a management or leadership position?  I work for a company that supplies the laboratory industry in the new product development dept. Because the FDA requires Design control on all the new products being launced into the market, I manage a group of people  that install and maintain the products out on the field...

6. Can you or will you change your own flat tire, check your oil, fix your car (when able), home repairs, etc.  If you don’t, why not?  home repairs yes, I hate doing anything having to do with a car, but will if I had no other choice.

7. How do you feel about this idea? will do what I have to do or needs to be done with home repairs and cars if no other choice, but would rather pay to get it done.
