There are 2 potential Arizona birds that could be. I'd have to know the size and see a side view. If it's only in Arizona and the far SW deserts...it's a Phainopepla. They have a crested head. They aren't usually so, er, stout. This is my guess.
If it's much larger, it could be a fat, well fed raven. There are some scary looking, big ass ravens in Arizona.

If it was pretty big bird, it was a Raven, awesome birds. Could be a crow, don't think so though.
