#1. How many attempts of putting on O2 to abort at HA before it should work? #2 How frequently can you apply O2? I know it is only to be on 15 min at a time. #3 Where to get Kudzu? Been to GNC and they didn't have a clue. Is there some online web that I can order it from. I am at the center of the attacks and the last two days nothing is helping. I am taking Verap. 120mg. Imitrex injects. O2 at 10L nonrebreather mask. Melatonin to sleep by. Has anyone had this problem? What do you do? Not complaining though just want to see what answers I can get. I know we are all in this together and are here for one another and I am thankful...

I've had this problem, Kim: Where nothing works... Kudzu can be had at a health foods store, and if you can't find it there, order it on-line. I'm sure Nani or someone else can help you with a link. I don't know anything about O2, and melatonin doesn't do anything for me except to make me feel like I've been hit by a bus, when I wake up the next morning. I hope you receive some relief soon. Hang tuff.......

Wow I feel the same in the AM after taking Melatonin. I will try with Nani then. What do you do to get through the tough moments then? I feel like I am taking meds for nothing. Thanks and hope you are PF.

Kim, you can crank that O2 up to 15 lpm. You can use it for each individual attack. IF its' not working at the 15lpm for 15 min on a CH then it's not going to help for THAT one. It may for the next. ANd your verap sound low to me. PF's -lionsound

Hi, Kim. For the really bad ones, last cycle, I had injectable imitrex. I won't be using it anymore, though. I don't like the way it made me feel, and it gave me shadows, and most likely, gave me rebound headaches. This time, if I get a really bad one, I'm going to just ride it out. No matter how bad it gets, it WILL pass. Hang in there.

| If it will work for you, it should be effective first time and be able to make an attack subside as long as the flow is adequate to get the brain to signal to constrict cranial arteries. O2 at 10Lpm should be adequate, some find effectiveness better at 12 -15 if necessary. Quote:#2 How frequently can you apply O2? I know it is only to be on 15 min at a time. |
| It can be used with every hit and about 15 minutes at adequate flow is approximately ok, or until whenever you feel it sufficiently subside. Again, it is when the artery constriction is adequate to get the trig nerve to calm down. Quote:#3 Where to get Kudzu? Been to GNC and they didn't have a clue. | On the medications board is a long thread, now 12 pages long about Kudzu usage and within the pages are many links for purchase if you cannot find it. The meds and treatment board has many links about oxygen and now a good Kudzu thread going. Many answers are available there or there is a link on the tabs to the left for oxygen usage alone. | Verap at 120mg is rarely effective at that low dosage. Neither Imitrex injects nor oxygen has been able to abort an attack? There perhaps are other abortives but I have no experience with them but even if trex and O2 do get rid of individual attacks, they come back as long as you are in cycle. That is where the preventative comes in, verap at your dosage would seem to be the culprit in the consistent reoccurances. The meds and treatment board has many threads on trex, oxygen and verapamil, also call your doctor and report this non-effectiveness. good reading to you and hope something can get corrected soon. Welcome. Kevin M

My concentrator only goes to 10L/min unfortunatly and the Verap. was just changed a week ago to 120 mg and I am not sure if I have given it the number of weeks to get it to work. Of course I wasn't expecting this round of attacks. I had been in the shadows for a week and a half and then bam. Will talk to doc about Verap though. PF days and night to all and thanks for feed back

Oxygen Concentrator? Isn't that the machine that pulls it from the air? I have read from others that they do not work for CH. on Mar 4th, 2005, 11:25am, Kim Y. wrote:My concentrator only goes to 10L/min unfortunatly and the Verap. was just changed a week ago to 120 mg and I am not sure if I have given it the number of weeks to get it to work. A concentrator does not deliver pure oxygen anyway. The air it delivers is enriched with oxygen, but it is not nearly as effective as pure O2 from a bottle, and the flow rate, which needs to be high, actually reduces the concentration of oxygen it can deliver. All that being said, I guess there are some people who may get relief with a concentrator, but I haven't spoken to any.

Lots of good info. Read. Insist. Get an 02 bottle, more verap since 120 mg ain't gonna do it. I have killed an entire E cyclinder just refusing to give up (more than my neck gets red ) Have you tried a prednisone taper? Lots of choices, not all work for everyone. Hope you find your combination soon and get some relief.
