I need to vent...

...I've been so busy at work lately that I have had very little time to post on the boards. For that I am sorry, because I know there have been people in need of encouragement and support. Please know that you are all in my thoughts.
But I really do need to vent.
I just came back from lunch. I got on the elevator with a woman and two men who work on a different floor for a different company. I see them regularly and we often exchange pleasantries. Two flooors up, the elevator stops and a mother and son (I am merely guessing at the relationship) get on. The son is obviously mentally handicapped, but he is quiet and polite. Up two more floors and the mother and son get off. As soon as the elevator started moving again, the woman turned to one of the men and said, "Can you believe it? I don't know why you'd even leave the house with that." And both men laughed.
The elevator stopped on their floor and they disembarked. I just stood there in horror, shocked beyond being able to say all the things I should have said.
WTF is wrong with some people? Sometimes I am ashamed to be part of the human race.

That kind of shit pisses me RIGHT off... and I would have said a few choice words to them before they got off the elevator, but that's just me. You have good restraint.
One time - I was dealing blackjack to this uppety couple and they were talking about donating their money to charities.
The lady said "I would never donate to AIDS research... why would I spend my money to say the gays".
I could have gotten fired that night... and it was ONLY because I was working and I need my job that I didn't rip her a new ass.
I never know if I should tell them about themselves, or if it would just be a waste of time.. but I figure that if NO ONE ever says anything - they'll never think it's wrong.
know what i mean?

Obviously, she looks down upon people with disabilities. She thinks she is normal (as many of us do of ourselves) so she would not want to be looked down upon by someone like herself. The worst part was the other two guys laughing, reinforcing her disturbed view that normal people laugh at others in the situation.
There are sub-species within the human race. With all the billions of us walking around the planet, you're bound to run into one of those less evolved sub-species once in a while.
Just pray she isn't raising any kids at home.

People like that have no room in my life, let alone with in 2 feet of me. Its folks like that just piss me off. They cant see beyond them selves. You can bet if it were HER child she would be doing everything in her power to make it right!! They dont think that maybe one day that little boy could be a life saver to their own grand child in some way. Everyone has a gift some are not seen till long after the fact. Others are out there for the whole world to see. As aunt of a child that is mute and blind its a hard pill to swallow that folks can be so ugly to those so small. Those with pure hearts (like Hirv )are those that REALLY do look beyond them selves and try to make the world a better place for the small and meek.

It comes in all forms, I will say this one quick story, child born without a large part of his brain, doctor told mom he had nothing and to leave him there and cat had more brains than he did, just let him die...this child lived to the age of seven and touched and taught many of us so very much...Robbie is just one example of the gifts we are given...

I always try and feel sorry for folks like that. They just don't get it. Their loss. That mom and her son will continue to love and cherish eachother regardless of the meanspiritedness of others and that lady and her "sheep" wouldn't know that gift if it smacked them upside the ass. A pity.

This i have felt on my body for several years
I have a brother that have "Cerebral Palsy"not sure that is the correct english word.
We was growing up with that attitude.Have to admit that it still hurts reading your story.
Was hoping that the general attitude had change since we was kids but i guess not
Many times i have thought that if its we "the so called normal"peps that are sick or not the oposite
Makes me mad and sad to read

I have a problem with people like that. It royally pisses me off and sometimes my lips move quicker than my thinking. I would have had to responded with something like "And let me guess, you have a heart condition - it seems to be cold and missing."
