I've been following the kudzu threads....

and today I went and bought some for Dave. I will be keeping a diary so that I can post into Floridian's survey thread at the end of one week. Wish us luck! We could sure use some. Tues. March 1, 2005 @ 3:30pm Dave has been in really rough shape for days. Unable to eat, sleep, or do anything because of the severe pain he is in with headaches, as well as whole body muscle pain, and chronic nausea. Took 2 Natures Way Kudzu root @ 613mg each. Will dose again at 10pm and repeat dosage 3x daily. Total daily dosage will be 3678mg. If any relief at all is obtained, will continue for one week before making any adjustments. If this works, whoever discovered it had better be there the next time I make it to a gathering of the clan, and had better be ready to be hugged to the point of a near death experience! Fingers crossed in Denver... Annette

Good Luck Annette.... and Dave.... {{{{{{{{VIBES}}}}}}}} Please keep us posted. That does seem like a higher dose then others are taking. Where did you come up with that dosage? PF Wishes and rest to you and Dave. -Tia

My bottle says I can safely take up to 4500 mgs a day. I started much lower for 2 reasons: 1. If I can keep it cheap, that's good 2. If I need to add later, I have a lot of room to do so.

The label says.. 50 caps certified 613mg with 1mg Diadzin Recommendation: Take 2 caps three times per day Serving size: 2 caps I'm assuming 6 caps x 613 = 3678mg total per day I failed math in high school, but the calculator says I'm right... am I wrong? Is this too much? others are taking 750 mg tabs? Standardization is sometimes a good thing. Annette

No, you're right Annette. If you want to start at that dose, it's certainly OK. I started at 750 mgs a day and added another 750 mgs a day 2 weeks later. I found relief the NEXT day after I started. I wasn't suffering as badly as Dave is, so it would be OK to start higher. You may want to start slower only to leave room to keep on increasing if necessary. I'm sure keeping my fingers crossed...I can't really cross much else.

Kudzu is simply a root starch. My wife had bad reflux, gerd and a precancerous esophagus. She went to a nutritionist, acupuncturist who administered a series of needle treatments and bag after bag( Ad Nauseum) of Chinese herbs. One of the treatments was daily doses of Kudzu I also went thru a series of needle treatments for my clusters. The needles the herbs and the Kudzu worked like a charm for my wife. The needles worked like a charm for me and I went eight years pain free until this year when the bastage returned. We been using kudzu in our everyday cooking as a thickener for gravy, sauces.pudding, and so forth. You can buy it by the five pound box online, and I don't think you can od. on the stuff. So was it acupuncture or the Kudzu that kept me pf for eight years? Beats me, but if they would have stayed away I wouldn't have found this site, found out about oxygen(thank the gods),or met you fine folks.

| Kudzu starch is NOT the same as kudzu root. To make the cooking starch, the root is ground up and washed. The washing removes most of the active ingredients - the daidzin and puerarin dissolve in water and are flushed away, while the starch settles to the bottom and is dried for kitchen use. Maybe a little of the active ingredient is in the starch, but not much.

Then maybe it was the acupuncture and not the gravy.

| Well, maybe they were using whole kudzu root powder, not the purified starch, I don't know. Just pointing out that there are different products out there - go with the root or root extract (or root+flower). Purified starch is less effective.

hmmmmm.... very minor reduction in intensity of shadows, so far no relief on number or intensity of actual hits. Dave has so much else going on though that we aren't really expecting the 24 hour turnaround others are getting- will keep hopeful and keep dosing. Thanks for all the good wishes coming in. Annette
