I know.....I am doin a degressing thread here.....sorry.....but you guys are my only RELIABLE source of info so I look up to yer advice on everything. I have a brand new computer that can do and handle alot......jus got it. Workin on the other new one that overheats. I've only had this one a few weeks and jus a bit ago I noticed  the screen saver wasn't on. No biggie.....but then 'it all happen'd'.....this thing went NUTS !!! Whatever my curser touched CAME ON SCREEN.....couldn't get thru the start menu cuz it kept saying it was signin off and would shut off quick then rite back on in a flash. I tried to run a virus scan and already ran one earlier (Norton) and it tried to run 26 scans 'at once' ?? Then the tool bar started to slide back and forth 90 mph and stuff flashing ? I tried to run pest patrol and fineally did and it didn't find a thing nor did Norton ??? I would run my curser over stuff to get to something and whatever it got near showed up onscreen includeing stuff I never knew was on here or had time to look at. Is that some sort of "bomb" thing that goes off at a certain time like a virus and jus does it to freak you out ? Started at 4:00 pm and scared the shit out of me !! I haven't done much on this thing but did download a few screensavers since this computer can run them and not overheat. What should I do ? Anything ? It "seems" ok now ?? Man that was NOT COOL. Brad about flipped cuz he jus bought this for me and he don't understand alot of computer stuff and how easy it is to get bugs. My server scans fer virus's also. Will it be ok now.....anyone know what happen'd ? Scared in waiting Pam

Thanks for any advice and sorry  to be jus computer JUNK.

Hmmm ... I ain't too smucken fart with putters, but the first thing that came to my mind, is a defective mouse.  Was the select button stuck down?  Or a short, or partial break in one of the mouse's wires that caused it to constantly select???

Can you reboot and start in safe mode? Then run scans.
Just a small start. Some screensavers are the worst virus pools around. If safe mode works uninstall them one at a time and try that if a scan doesnt find anything. Hope the real tekies show up soon, Nothing can't be fixed.
Luck.

Cootie, Cootie, Cootie....

The worst thing you can do is download screensavers, they are usually full of adware, spyware, and who knows what. Running your anti- spyware programs should help. Not using internet explorer will help too. Not using Microsoft Windows will help the most. Send me you address and I will send you Xandros, a GNU/Linux operating system. You will have to learn some new programs, and you won't get to install the latest shareware but say goodbye to virus scans, having to defrag, spyware, and all the other junk you deal with. Your old camera will probably be supported too. Also there looks to be about 50 screen savers on the default install.

Thanks guys......yeah maybe I should delete somea them screen savers.....got em from a site that gaurntee's no spyware or adware or crap included....yeah I know....promises promises. The mouse wasn't defective but thanks for the idea. This thing went off on a tangent all by itself as if it was something SET to happen at a certain time and have heard about them. I could move the mouse or curser around but whatever it drug over CAME UP on screen without CLICKING it even once or wanting it to show up. I was tryin to shut it down but the curser would jus get over SHUTDOWN off the start menu and it'd shut down and start back up in a second....not a normal restart and never got to the part where it asks you on shutdown if you want to restart or totally shut down it jus DID IT. When I tried to get to the start menu again and jus got the mouse near it all this stuff started to come onscreen like movie maker program and cd burner stuff and photo stuff. I didn't even ASk it to do anything or click anything. Tried to run the virus scan and it came up but all of a sudden 26 of them came up and minimized at the bottom all running a scan !!! Fan was on full boar havein a hay day tryin to 'cool it'.....fineally got them x'd out one at a time but them they were startin to add back up again on it's own. Almost as if this BUG was tryin to protect itself ? Couldn't do safe mode or anything cuz ya got near the start menu with the curser and all hell broke loose. Freaky thing was the tool bar bottom right corner flashing back and forth across the bottom and ya had to try and CATCH the icon. Then dialog boxes started to flash 90 mph when one of them dumb programs I didn't ask to open came on all by themselves ?? It lasted a while but once the scan was over it stopped but that isn't what started it. OK....did any of that make sense at all for better understanding ? Thanks for all the ideas.....this thing was on AUTO PILOT. I got my mail program on but not online but could not get anything to work. Took me a long time to get online after all that so that worried me settings were changed. But it's ok now.....not done much on here yet but maybe the downloading had a bug or bomb thing set to go off ? Suppose if all one brand of computer went NUTS at the same time the tech support would be flooded and company with calls and emails. Sbbatoge maybe ??? Or a computer MALFUNCTION ? Sure would like ta know. I had NO control what so ever !! Bombs away Pam  Undecided

Nope nothin wireless except my head here. I didn't do nothin to this thing when it happen'd.....I prolly ain't makein a lick of sense tryin to explain it cuz I get so freaked out. Whatever the curser got near WITHOUT clicking on highlighted and come up. Then I tried to get a virus scan runnin and it started but one was minimizd at bottom also.....then it started to multiply and had a number on it that said as high as 26 which was 26 scans all at one time overlapping. They added up as fast as I could try and delete them then I fineally got jus one goin. But could not TOUCH THAT MOUSE tomove that curser cuz shit went coo-coo it got near. And the shut downs were NOT normal when I tried to reboot. The danceing tool bar really set it off. Shit was poppin up and then dialog boxes for that program poppin up flashing. I didn't ask for any of em to come up and couldn't get to them thru the desktop anyhow to do that. Jus wonderin if it was some sorta sabatoge thing thru a screen saver or whatever or already on here ? I am ramblin on and on......ok.....jus ignore me and I'll go away as usual Pam

Some of the helpful programs you should have on your computer or at least burned to a disc in case you cannot connect to the WWW are:

CWShredder (stand alone version)

Adaware

To keep your computer free from Adware, Malware, Spyware, trojans, etc...I use Winpatrol.  Some may disagree with its effectiveness, but I have not had any incidences of any "wares" since I started using it.

WinPatrol

If you are in need of an anti-virus program Grisoft offers AVG which has always worked well for me.

Okay... I'll try my best to not be too technical... Don't wanna frazzle you anymore than you are... Ready?  Ditto Chuck.

At werk... Back when I still had a job (the damn bastards), my 'puter did something similar to what you described... Occasional, freaky mouse/cursor behavior.  I had my supervisor put in a trouble ticket, and IT came out... I told them it was the mouse, and they should get me a new one... They denied it, and spent a day running scans and tests on the system, and ended up finding nothing and claiming it was fine.  Few days later, same thing, another ticket, same response from IT.  This went on every few days for nearly a month.  Finally, when IT finally came out the last time, I showed them... I moved the mouse, nothing wrong... I pulled on the mouse cord just a bit at the mouse end, and the thing went nuts until it crashed... Rebooted, and it gave a mouse error, wouldn't boot from hard drive, and failed at a network boot... I pushed the mouse cord back into the mouse and rebooted, and everything worked again.  I was right all along... The cord was damaged, and shorting out.  They gave me a new mouse, and there was no further problems.

Replace the mouse with a known good part, and see if that fixes it.  If not, have the store you bought it from check the PS/2 mouse port, but with the trouble appearing to start and stop on it's own, I would guess a loose connection along the cord, in the mouse, or at the port (you did check to make sure the cord is firmly plugged in... Didn't you?)

PFDAN................................ Drk^Angel

P.S. Sorry O... Don't think it's a Winblows thing this time, but if it ends up not being hardware after all, just remember I meant to say "Ditto O" above.

First guess is that a mouse button is stuck.  Unplug your mouse.  Did that fix it?  You can navigate through Windows using the tab / alt / enter keys.

If not, boot up in Safe Mode.  Power up the computer, tapping on F8 the entire time until you get a startup menu.  One of the option will be Safe Mode... Safe Mode with Networking may be one of the options... hit it.  From there run AdAware SE... available at www.lavasoft.de.

Delete your screensavers.  Any free shit on the net is not free.  I spent 4 hours this weekend fixing someones system that was loaded with 'free' shit.

Betting on the mouse button thingy.

Bad mouse!!! That's what it sound like to me too.

Try a new mouse that you know works. Unplug the existing mouse and look at the plug. Any bent pins??? (Make sure that the computer is turned off while unplugging/plugging the mouse or keyboard.)

Most of all.... Is it plugged into the right connection? Some systems WILL work if the keyboard and mouse are plugged in to each others PS/2 ports but will occasionally do weird stuff.

Ok THANK you guys !!! Checked stuff and things seem ok far as plugs ect. First thing I did notice when it seem'd somethin was odd (no screen saver come on) that some of the desktop icons changed ? One of my FILE folders on my desktop with STUFF in it changed to OPERA icon ? Then I touched the mouse and hell it was the day the deskstop did NOT stand still episode. I have one of the meeses with a ball you use verses move the mouse around. So maybe somethin was screw'd up like ya'll said with the mouse. Didn't need to click nothin IT JUS HAPPEN'D. Now my server is runnin too slow and can't do much.....took 10 minutes to get a page up last nite 'and counting' and gave up and shut 'er down. Get 'er done Pam

OK....hyjack away.....I love it. What style underwear do you wear on yer head ???
