Headache is a common complaint. Psychological treatment has been effective in managing the symptoms of vascular (migraine and combined migraine-tension) headache. Traditional office-based treatment may be inconvenient for many patients in terms of time and travel constraints, thereby limiting access. Telemedicine has emerged as a promising delivery medium to address these barriers to access. However, the efficacy of remotely delivered treatment for vascular headache remains untested. This case series is a preliminary evaluation of effectiveness and feasibility of an analogue telemedicine system for delivery of psychophysiological treatment for vascular headache. Three of four subjects showed improvement. These findings are encouraging for follow-up study of the clinical utility and broader viability of headache treatment via distance technology. |

Somehow I don't think that telemedicine will be the new wave of treatment for vascular headaches of any kind. While I believe that there is a psychological component to dealing with CH, I can't see it being treated, or managed succesfully via the phone line. Tension headaches, yes. CH, no way.

That's kinda funny... Telemedicine, in reality, is a really awesome thing. But I've never actually heard it used for therapy! I mean seriously...what's the point? Are there no therapists worth talking to in the immediate vicinity? And if not, no friends or anything either? hehe
Normal use of telemedicine is for doctors to help treat patients who have no doctors available. Or for teleconferences with specialists all over the globe.
Therapy? Interesting...
Personally, I like Donna's idea!

I think we should all be billing each other for the support services rendered on this board - provided insurance will pay. I think we do a good job, much more personal, in-depth, and timely than the average doctor ... but it aint gonna happen. The promise that we would be able to work from home is replaced with the reality that someone else will be doing our job if they are willing to work for 1/10 of what we expect. So I guess we'll keep helping each other because it is the right thing to do ...

The 'psychological' part seems to me that the medical community, who have failed MISERABLY in our regard, are passing the proverbial buck.
Perhaps the reason we esteemed dr's have not found effective relief is because in actuality it's not within our purview. This is a psychological condition to a large degree...
Ugh.

I'm not sure what they meant in the article by 'psychophysiological' treatment. Maybe its a great new thing to help people, or maybe its a cost-saving route for big organizations.
Does psychophysiological mean 1-900-meditate?

King Crab fishing in Alaska waters ...? The most dangerous occupation in the world! Damn, bro, glad you made it back. Got all your fingers still? I read an article about that a few years ago (in a mag called POV) - some friends of ours know the skipper that was profiled (but then again, in Iceland, there are only 3 degrees of separation!)
