It looks like a spanish vegetable I've seen in Spanish grocery stores...I think the Spanish name is Panapen...maybe Nani knows...and I have seen them in weird shapes.  They're sorta in the pumpkin family.

Female.  You don't get fruit (ripened ovary and accessory structures) from a male.  It could be monoecious (both male and female structures on one plant).  Maybe a monoecious fruit?!
