While You Can

Smile
Laugh
Enjoy life
Look at the clouds
Smell the roses
Look for and find the little things that make it all worth while
Be a friend
Help some one in need
Hug those you love

These are just a few of the things that make it all worth the effort of keeping going.

The point to all this? I guess there really isn't one. I just need to remind myself. Difficult times come to us all, they pass. We survive, we learn, we grow stronger (hopefully), and we go on.

Within the next few days my mother is expected to pass on. This will be an end to the pain. We do not want her to go, but this is not how she would want to exist. So when the time is her, we will let her go with our love.

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

 Open Up The Window
Open up the window,
 and let the light shine through.
Our mother feels its time to pass.
  She knows just what to do.

Let your love surround her soul,
   with all your Earthly might.
Our mothers off to Heaven
  She leaves this very night.

Prepare a final place for her,
 Her body is now a shell.
But deep inside, a soul so pure,
 Is wanting to be well.

So stand aside my brother.
 Let strength hold back our tears.
She walks now strong and without pain,
We have nothing to fear.

written for Redneck at the passing of his mom
God bless ya buddy...love to you Ree

My prayers and thoughts go to you and your family.  I was where you are at just a short time ago.  Although I miss my mother terribly, I know it was right for her to let go, and she is in a better place now and out of pain.  Your mother sounds like she will be there soon too.  It sounds like this will be for the best.

God bless!

This poem was given to me when I lost my mother....
(to me it never loses it's value)

Do not Stand at My Grave

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the Gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom.  She will always be in your heart and memories.

Redneck, I, too, will be facing this loss in the not-so-distant future. My heart goes out to you and your family.
I have never understood why we send flowers to a funeral............there are 364 OTHER days in a year.....I choose to send my mother flowers all the time. Each day she remains doing well, feeling good and laughing with me is a gift. When she is gone, I will draw from those memories to help fill the void she has left.

My sympathies, Redneck.....I hope mom knows what a special son she has.....

Thank you for reminding all of us. It's too easy to forget it sometimes...
It's strange that it takes so often the closeness of death - in a way or another - to remind us about things which truly matter in life.

I've been where you are... it's hard.

Looks like she did a good job Redneck.

Recalls this poem..

The Bridge Builder

An old man, going a lone highway,
Came, at evening, cold and gray,
To a chasm, vast, and deep, and wide,
Through which was flowing a sullen tide.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim;
The sullen stream had no fears for him;
But he turned, when safe on the other side,
And built a bridge to span the tide.
"Old man," said a fellow pilgrim, near,
"You are wasting strenght with building here;
Your journey will end with the ending day;
You never again must pass this way;
You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide-
Why build you the bridge at the eventide?"

The builder lifted his old gray head:
"Good friend, in the path I have come," he said,
"There followeth after me today
A youth, whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm, that has been naught to me,
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.
He, too, must cross in the twilight dim;
Good friend, I am building the bridge for him."

Hi Brother,

     Mom passed into the great beyond a few years ago.    Dad has the althimerze thing and didnt know what was happening.    Dad still lives, but not much of a thought left.    I found Mom on the floor of the bathroom, eyes wide open, cold.    Dad wanted coffee.

I spent the day with her. Took her a dozen roses, she held the roses, smiled, and hugged me. Thats a small smile I will never forget.
