Damned
Silently they creep up on me,
before my thoughts have time to scatter.
Unbidden they gather in the quiet
and begin their relentless chatter.
Slowly they surface
in my subconscious thoughts at night.
When everyone is asleep
I wrestle my demons in fright.
Not even I can believe
this pain in my head.
You don’t know the agony of life
or the pleasure of the dead.
Clutching my pounding head
I cry in the dark.
Hit my head against the wall
try to tear my mind apart.
