There is a leak in roof and it has been there for several months..  the ceiling is discolooerd and drips...  we have complained several tiems..  they have had a roofer come out and look, but they have done nothing about it.

Can I stop paying rent unilt they fix this...  the area of the ceiling 3 foot square and another 2 foot area... another couple of storms and they will fall in...  Not to mention slipping and falling on the wet floor.

check your state laws, it will probably be online but they are at the library.  There is a whole section on renter/landlord stuff, very easy to find.

Put the rent inescrow and contact the town building inspector and dept of Public Health. Once you have done that the landlord can take no action (raising the rent, etc.) for one year or it is considered retaliation.

Being a slumlord myself I would advise you to get out of the place, mold will start to grow and in some cases cause the place uninhabitable until removed. This would certainly give you the right to break any lease.
