Sunday RANT!!!!!

Has the whole damn country gone completely crazy? The excerpt below was taken out of the NY Times this morning. The country is in a freakin’ war, the economy sucks, our country’s medical system is from hunger and THIS guy is worried about a toy sponge!!!!!
“It took Dr. James Dobson, the conservative Christian leader and gay marriage opponent, who claims the president's re-election was more a mandate for his ideas than George Bush's, to point out the insidious underside of the popular cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants. It takes a sponge to brainwash a child.
Holy Abe! Dr. Dobson outed SpongeBob at a black-tie inaugural fete last week for members of Congress and political allies. He said that a "pro-homosexual video" - starring SpongeBob, Barney, Jimmy Neutron, Winnie the Pooh, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy - was set to go to elementary schools to promote a "tolerance pledge," including tolerance for differences of "sexual identity."”
I grew up with cap guns (Roy and Dale were my idols). When I grew up I learned to shoot “real guns” and never once turned into a serial killer. My son grew up with Sesame Street and Archie Bunker and he’s not “too” screwed up. Now every time I give my grandson a “gun” of any kind, his idiot parents look for signs of a serial killer in him (Thank you Dr. Phil for pointing out the signs). And now “fun” toys are being put down.
Where does it stop? These people are doing a lot of damage to our kids. My niece committed suicide because of a “self-proclaimed” suicideologist. This jerk wrote a book on “how” to commit suicide and got it in the churches and then in the schools. The day after it went to the schools, she followed his instructions and killed herself. She was 15. He’s still lecturing to churches the last time I heard.
One of my 3 year old grandson’s teachers is telling the class that Caleb’s daddy works in a bad place (a casino). Well, Caleb may get expelled if he tells that teacher what I told him to tell her, but…….
Ok, so much for my Sunday morning rant. My blood pressure is up now, so I can go back to sleep for my morning nap. Think I’ll go to WalMart this afternoon and get a Sponge Bob for my grandson to take to school. That oughta bug the heck out of that idiot teacher.

You go girl! I agree they seem to want to a make a whole lot out of nothin'. Remember the good old days of Cowboys and Indians? Now it would be very politically incorrect!
Funny isn't it - we didn't have nearly the problems then with kids getting into the kinds of trouble we see today. I say bring back the good old days - tan their hides when they do wrong - enough with the counting and the time out!
Lord Barb - you and I will likely go down in flames for this - but I hear ya.

Carol it's amazing we raised kids without the help of the government (heaven forbid paddling their little behinds these days - they'll sue you!). We didn't know about infant seats in cars (wonder how many lives they've actually saved and how many accidents they've really caused - my baby starts choaking in the backseat - there's gonna be a stoppage on the interstate). We didn't know about child proofing the house - just told the little darlings "NO" and it seemed to work. If they stuck their little fingers in a light socket - they only did it once (well most of them - Jonny I'm not sure about).
My son has been nice enough to point out all the mistakes I made with him and it's amazing he grew up (without me killing him) to be only slightly neurotic.
I'm sympathetic with all those people in Asia who've had such a bad time with the (whatever they call it) and all, but we've got landslides in CA that are killing OUR people. I'm more upset that we're not sending MONEY there instead of overseas. How many countries have offered to come to our rescue with money and aide? When have they EVER? Even after 9-11 - we got sympathy but not much monetary support.
And now we've got preachers putting new meanings to toys that were invented for kids to PLAY with.
Gotta go take my AFTERNOON nap now.

I beleive in freedom of speech but I will be the FIRST to admit it has gotten carried away !! You can get an idea in yer head and publish it or say it and the world starts buzzing. Next thing ya know products are bein pulled, commercials cancel'd.....movies bann'd....oh come on !!! My parents never made comments cartoons liked were violent (Tom and Jerry) or the chimunks or Three Stooges.....the idea was never put in my head. I KNEW it was a dam show. Now everyone is into subliminal messages to our kids. I always thought them little bug eyed Japanese animals with strange powers were ODD but I ain't gonna start tellin parents there kids are bein hyjacked mind wise by it all. I still am not sure why now days kids like inatamate objects as hero's tho....like sponges and furniture with eyes but maybe they run outa ideas. Cootie power ranger Pam

And STILL there are no flames. I think the majority of people believe like you Barb and Carol. Count me as one of them. I had toy guns, then bb guns then real guns and I have yet to rob a bank or shoot someone. I watched the 3 Stooges, Abbot & Costello and the Looney Tunes saturday morning cartoons. I've yet to throw someone off a building or beat them senseless. I think most people are disgusted with the way things are turning out. It only takes a few morons to get together and create a sh*tstorm of stupidity. I think a lot of the stupid ideas kids get these days are from the very idiots warning us all of the latest dangerous toy or immoral/violent cartoon.
ACK! Better stop before I get started.

Me too.
I had the play guns. I learned how to use real ones. I watched the stooges, Tom & Jerry,El Kabong, and all of the other (so-called) violent stuff.
When I got out of line, I got an A$$ whoopin. If I wasn't at home and a neighbor saw me get out of line, I'd get an A$$ whoopin and then I'd get another when I got home because they'd call my house and tell my parents.
After all of that, I think I turned out OK. The A$$ whoopins are what kept me from turning into an animal.
I'm really grateful that I'm not a child growing up in this day and age. Man would I have some problems.

I got this e mail last night, thought it would be nice here....
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or
drank while they carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing and didn't get
tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with
bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or
cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took
hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or
air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle
and NO ONE
actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, bread and butter and drank soda pop with
sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE
PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as
long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes.
After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround
sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the
worms live in us forever.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and
new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and welearned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with
scissors, doesn't
it?!

You might want to consider the source of this story. The Times cannot seem to get anything correct these days. Dr. Dobson was concerned that government schools were to use these popular characters to influence elementary school kids into someone’s moral beliefs, without their parent’s consent or knowledge. The Times managed to turn this into a "gay Spongebob" story.
If the schools in the US were only as concerned about the kids actually learning basic skill as they are about indoctrination into the world of political correctness, maybe they would not rank so far behind the rest of the industrialized world in education.

I think the video was less about "political correctness" than it was about "tolerance". Dr Dobson took issue with teaching tolerance about sexual preference. As if tolerating was promoting.

I read this elsewhere, not in the Times. Dobson, and those of similar ilk, have the brains of a gerbil. The more they complain about this stuff.....as inane as the arguemnt is, the more attention it gets.
Intelligence isn't a prerequiste for this kind of thing.
