They're back!

Well, my headaches are back. It has been almost six years since I have had them this bad. It has been 2 1/2 weeks and I have been getting 2-4 headaches a day. Most of them are in the evening or middle of the night, but I have also got quite a few during the day. My doc first had me on Cardizem, that did nothing. Then I started on Verapimil and a 3 dose of Prednisone. There was almost 2 full days when I was taking the pred that I did not get a headache. As soon as I stopped taking the pred the headaches came back. Three days later they put me back on Prednisone and upped my dosage of Verapimil. That was only yesterday, after I ended up in the ER. So far I have not had an attack today. I am completely out of the imitrex I usually use. My insurance will not fill it as fast as I need it. None of the over the counter stuff works for me. I have been taking anything to sleep at night. Nyquil, and I had some cough syrup that has codene in it. Sometimes I am desperate and that is what I resort to. I am living in hell right now.

Hi Jamie...welcome and I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Many people use melatonin to help them sleep at night. It's an inexpensive OTC supplement. Look on the medications board to get info about it. Look around the site here and at the OUCH site (link on left). You will gather a lot of treatment info. Many people (including myself) use oxygen to abort headaches. There's a link on the left for info about that. Pain free wishes, nani

Sorry to hear the beast if back. Definitely try 02 to abort headaches. Be careful with the OTC stuff, it can cause some really nasty rebound headaches. How long have you been on the verap? It will take a couple of weeks to have much effect. Good luck. Hope things improve soon.
