Oxygen Tank Vs Oxgen Regenerator?

Hi all!  I am new to this website and am a chronic cluster sufferer since 1998.  My doctor is putting me on Oxygen treatment for the first time.   So I call a medical supplier, and they say they have a oxygen regenerator or oxygen regulator(i don't remember now) which is a 2'X2' box and produces oxygen itself instead of getting refills.  He said they run around $1800.  So, I ask them if they have anything smaller because I want to use this oxygen at work (since I commonly get headaches while at work).  He says he can supply me with a tank but it only last 3.5 hours and can be expensive.  I think he didn't understand what I am using it for (I explained it to him twice).  Anyway, I was under the assumption I would use a tank until it is empty at which time I would go get it refilled.  One that is small enough to take home on the weekends would be great.  What route would those that use oxygen to stop clusters recommend?  Anyway, I feel like I am rambling but ANY help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Hello Volvol.  It's been a while since I used O2 but when I did I had a Large "H" tank in my bedroom, and another portable tank in addition to that.  I know that mine was one of the longer lasting portables available, but, yes, it's kindof a pain to keep getting the refills.  But the alternative is having clusters w/o them, so refilling began making a lot more sense to me!!!  Grin  I'm not familiar with the oxygen generators but if you end up having to use tanks, I'd recommend using two, like I said above.  Good luck and welcome to the site!!

Jeff
I just rented a tank yesterday to see if that type of treatment would work for me.  Make sure you explain to the supplier how many L/Min you will be using so they can estimate how long the tank will last you.  I rented what they call an E tank and at 15L/min it lasted me a little over 35 min.  That is a high setting but it is what I needed last night.  I sucked the whole tank up.  If you read the o2 info others suggest to do 10 - 15L/min.  Just keep that in mind when you call your medical supplier.  I hope that it works for you - it did seem to help me.  Just thought I would share - even though I am very new to the o2 thing. Good Luck!!

You need the tank not the regenerator.......It is not a breathing issue and you will not get the high flow rate you need from the regenerator.

You can get tanks that are small enough and inconspicuous to keep in a back pack and/ or under your desk at work if needed

for in the drunk of your car...

in the house....

the garden.....

the bathroom...

the home office....

the bedroom.... Wink supehighflowregulator!!!

Good luck and Pain free wishes

I'm with E-Double on this.  My dad used the regenerator and it's used for constant o2 flow ... like for emphazema patients.  His did not go up high enough (lpm) for me to use, even with the proper mask attached.

Go for a big tank, and a little (portable) tank (or 2 or 3 or 4).  You can bring the small ones to work with ya or anywhere else ya go and leave the big one at home.

I actually use regenerators at home. Notice the plural. One unit alone does not give a high enough flow, but hooked in series they do. They are expensive as hell, but my insurance is paying for them, not me. And I always know the O2 is there when I need and never have to worry about refills. I have a small tank in the jeep and a large tank at work. The important thing is to make certain you get a high enough flow.

Hey. Just don't bid against me on this roach (2nd item).  My paypal is only good for another $30 unless I verify the damned thing with a bank account or something. Not sure I trust them with my bank account .

This specific regulator doesn't have an air line nipple, only the Diss Outlet......which looks like what the damned bubblers need. If the sucker winds up in my mitts, it'll be test driven and included in the new improved O2 instructions page N4H and Mast are going to do (They don't know it yet, but fuck `em if they can't take a joke.)

I bid, therefore I am.

Grrrrrr.........somehow, I just bid against myself. God damnit, I don't get this EBay crap.

The O2 generators don't give enough flow to work for me. I have a "H" tank and 2 "E" tanks. The E tanks are small enough for me to take with me wherever and last about 30 minutes.
YMMV thumb

With two of the generators slaved together it gives a lpm of 18... I find that ample.
