Anybody else feel like everyone is staring in pity when you lug an o2 bottle around? Lately I have had to take one to work and then to a conference in Ohio. I have to keep saying, 'it looks life-threatening doesn't it? Don't worry It's not.' The conference was at a school for the deaf and all the deaf folks I knew were feeling sorry (they are very facial expressive ) for me when they saw me wheeling my o2 bottle to my room, lol. not a bitch or whine, but just kind of a funny observation, wonder if others feel a little embarrassed by it also.

I was somewhat embarrased when I had to drag the tank in to work. Everyone looked at me like "poor thing"...Some people wanted to know why and I explained, others avoided me...LOL. Eventually my boss had me set it up in a supply room. I got caught sucking the oxygen a few times too, but then I didn't care, I was just thankful to have it there... Langa

But the best thing about dragging that dang tank around is people start to believe it's more than a headache...my meegrainer friends don't give me so much "yea, I have that kind of headache" business so much anymore... Chris

God bless those deaf folks. They have a pain, you have a pain. The pains may be different but they able to sympathize and understand what it is to be different. It's the "normal" people that are a big pain in the butt.

| wow Ree you sign? I built this software for deaf students to learn with, http://vreal.orlando.veridian.com/. It was under a grant. I have been working with deaf (co-working) for five years and I am still very limited in signing. Need to get you to teach me eh? Unfortunately that project is ending, back to working primarily with the miserable defense industry. It bums me out to think about it. I had to call a company to deliver it in ohio for me, the airline said no,no,no to o2 on the airplane in any way shape or form. ps anybody looking at those pictures of me on there, I am 30 lbs lighter than that fat ass in those pictures, hehe

I'm going back to work Monday. (Lost my last one to CH) and I'll be lugging my o2 and all my meds to work to decorate my cube. So stiiing in front of a bunch of computers (I'm a systems administrator/programer) and sucking o2 will be kinda like, being on CH.com! lol. I've only lugged to bottle to a few places so bring it where people don't understand will be... intresting. I think my standard responce will be. "What the fuck you looking at???"

My sister had a serious throat injury when she was a kid and the rebuilding of her larnyx caused her to have a very hoarse normal voice. When we'd go places people would always comment...Oh do you have a sore throat. The first few years we ignored it. Then it got really old. So if I was with her and someone asked, I'd say..."No, cancer." You should have seen the looks that would provoke. a lot like this: or this:

I can sign church songs excellently. I sign for church. Im not good enough yet to sign the service. We have 5 interpreters in our church. They are teaching the other ones as a foreign language in the christian school and anyone else who wants to meet on Sunday afternoons can sit in and learn also. My cousin is deaf and it is so nice to be able to say Hello to her. She can read lips and teaches a college level class to students wanting to learn ASL.
