My cats have a pretty good recipe. On second thought, nevermind. I think those might be tootsie-rolls. Worthless creatures... I have a similar question about making chili from scratch. I haven't seen anything on the internet that's just halfway easy or even explanatory...

| I started a batch last night, it should be ready by Friday. Cluster Chuck is the real guy to talk to when it comes to chili though.

Frank, when I make chili I am just cleaning out my fridge. Dump in that old salsa and hot sauce mix with some hamburger and onions add a few peppers and whatever else you think should be in there. Don't use recipes, that's just someone elses interpitation of how something should taste. You make it how you want, it will get better. Chili must age so you make it and then eat it the following day. I won a chili cooking contest way back in 1991. The plaque is on my kitchen wall. It was so hot it burned a hole in a sample cup. You just need to perfect your own chili. I don't measure so it is a little different every time. If you would like a more detailed recipe pm me. Good luck Tim

I thought I smelled chili... on Jan 13th, 2005, 4:43pm, Jeepgun wrote:I haven't seen anything on the internet that's just halfway easy |
| You whiney suck! If you want easy, go open a can of Hormel's, and STFU. Chili is an art form.......it's painting with a pot, and writing with a spatula. Ingredients: *Stock* 2-3 cans Tomatoes (approx 14 oz), crushed 1 pt V-8 juice (more if thinner mix desired) 8 stalks celery, 2 large onions, 6 cloves garlic, all diced and sauteed until transparent 1/4 cup honey 1/2 cup chili powder 1-10 Tbsp cayenne pepper (to taste) 1 Tbsp white pepper Salt - I use lots 2 Tbsp Cumin (VERY important) 2 Tbsp Thyme 10-800 Jalapeno peppers de-seeded and diced Anything else in the frig that might taste good Put above ingredients in a large pot, bring to a low boil, then reduce to a bare simmmer for 3 hours, uncovered, stirring often. It should be too hot to put in your mouth just yet. *Add: 1 lb cooked ground beef, or any other meat you like 1 can small white beans 1 can small red beans 1 can pink beans anything else in the frig that might taste good Continue slowly simmering and stirring for another couple hours, uncovered. You'll know it is aproaching the "Ready to Eat" stage when it no longer sets your mouth on fire. This can only be accomplished by hours of slow cooking, allowing the condiments to seep in to the beans/meat and become tempered. Any monkey can put a bunch of pepper in a pot and set your mouth on fire. This is not the case with true Chili. Although it may start off as a 5 alarm mix, by the time it has simmered all day a blending of ingredients will occur, and you get a reasonably hot dish with a rich, full bodied tast that fills the mouth with flavor, not fire. The next morning is a _Whole_ `nuther story.......... I like beans in chili. If you want to follow those dirt-sod-stupid Texans and "Real chili doesn't have beans," then by all means, go ahead. Fucking rednecks. I'm serious about my chili. Sounds like Tim is too. Brownies. Sheesh, RJ
