Spyware - Heads Up

A new breed of malware/spyware/shitware has begun infesting our public and staff computers here.

It is called 'EliteToolbar'. It may have already mutated and found othere forms/names but it is still a PITA to get rid of.

If found a good removal tool for it at MajorGeeks.com.

Well until you can get a free OS upgrade installed you can probably be safe for now by using any browser but IE.

I'm pretty safe now because I'm very careful with what I do on my system.

In most cases, you still have to accept something or click a button somewhere in order for the stuff to get on your system.

In four years here at this job, I have never been infected with viruses or spyware on my I.E. system.

It's the rest of our staff who think that they should be allowed to download free screen savers or want to do the systems staff a favor by running that "free" spyware scanner who get our network all buggered up by this stuff.

So what's your opinion on MS's latest little gem Exploding Eyeball? It's for XP systems.

Like you, I prefer to keep spyware OUT, but would this be useful for those who are already infected? Or might it cause more problems?
Happy days

I haven't had a chance yet to look real deep into that. I did run this tool on my system this morning when the update came out and it found nothing.

I'm waiting to find a good workbench example of a system that is severely hosed (geek speak for screwed up) so I can run this on it.

So far, it looks to me like it might be at least another decent tool to use to try and fix a system that's already infected.

From what I read, Microsoft is planning on updating this tool once a month and re-releasing it as an update.

It never actually installs anything on your system but simply checks for unwanted stuff and removes it.

At the reat this Elite toolbar thing is coming in, I should get to test this tool soon.

There's a downloadable version too which can be burned to disc - let me know if you can't find it. New updates every first Tuesday of the month means we'd have to burn each new version, but please let me know what you think of it when you've used it on that hosed system!

Thank you for your rapid reply!
