Insurance Question

Long story short.. I submitted my two weeks resignation to my ex- employer on Friday (1/7). I was "let go" the same day stateing it was company policy to terminate employment the day a letter of resignation is rendered. My question is how do the benefits work? Does my coverage stop on that day or is there a "grace period" before COBRA kicks in? My reason for asking this is OF COURSE that day I got hit with a very a- typical HA. I was trying to find the post from a while ago, about a popping sound I heard. The posts are too long and I feel like crapola! Sorry. I heard a slight pop and since been experiencing almost lightheaded dizzy almost like rythmic pulsating sensation for three days now. It does not hurt, aside from the hits I am getting periodically. I am just getting a little concerned, the sensation has also gone into my upper body, hands and arms. The specialist I see is 600 a visit so I am afraid to go without adequate coverage. Thank you for any feedback you can offer.

It can depend on the laws of the state you live in. However, It typically works like this. You and your company pay for your insurance in advance. So If you are payed every two weeks then you are covered and most likey they will take your premium out of your last check also. This is because the company typically pays the total premium for the entire month at the begining of the month. So you should be cover through the rest of the month. If they give you any grief and have continued to take out your premium just present that check stub to them. They take your money you are covered. I hope all works out Good Luck and Good Vibes

Just thinking out loud. Has anyone here gotten a better deal from these bastard HMOs and the like by telling them that what you have are migraines rather than clusters? Might work and you might find a doctor who would help out. Charlie

It depends on the company. Very few companies term coverage on the date of termination. Most cover through the end of the month. You'll need to contact your human resources department to find out for sure. I work for BCBS and sometimes it is loaded under the group information and we can tell but best to check with your HR department. Good Luck! Karen
