Ruminations On Velocity And Gravitational Pull

Ruminations On Velocity And Gravitational Pull
Swaying on the narrow ledge
forty-six stories up.
The blue lights of the nightsky shout
in my bloodshot eyes while
the cello wind sings through
girders and glass, slapping at me and
stealing my breath.
Through gritty teardrop haze, the
blurring tilted world spins below and
your photo with your jagged smile ripping
your face open and exposing your glaring teeth
flutters and falls
from my fingers like
a sparrow snared in barbed wire.
Toes hanging in empty space, I
consider one little step: How irrevocable, how the
ledge would look as I fell away, wondering if I would grab
in vain for it, and at what point I would surrender to grim
velocity and screaming space, wondering what my last thoughts would be,
and whether my heart would stop before
IMPACT
Or if I would plummet with eyes as white and round as peeled grapes,
bloody laughter sweet and metallic in my throat
as the brutal concrete rushed to split me like an overripe tomato.

Becky, if I had a choice about what I write, I wouldn't write anything at all. LOL... I don't mean to worry anyone, though. I've already been there and tried it a few times, and I don't think anything will ever push me to that brink again. Still, when standing on a high, precarious ledge, one can't help but think.... "One little step... How bad could it be?"

song and the triumph of the storm thundering and
raining across the land in cumulus radiance is really
our own benevolent smile beaming from everywhere.
Less of me has become more of You until there is
no understanding of which is which and who is what or
where anything begins and no end or horizon to grasp.
No past
No future
No paradox
No direction or weighing upon left or right or wrong,
and how these words are only the vainest, feeblest attempt
to chronicle this vast and boundless thing...
Enough of words.

Thanks, Russ. The problem with professional publishing, is that the Almighty Dollar is King. Most publishers aren't willing to take a chance on an unknown author unless they are guaranteed to sell at least 5,000 copies. Poetry is a narrow market, so the compromise is that the publisher expects the author to foot the bill for printing, distribution, and to actually go around and hock the book to book sellers. I just don't have that kind of time or money.
What would be really neat, is if I could find a small press willing to take a chance, and then get set up with a photographer or illustrator, and turn out a small book with poetry and illustrations/photos to go with each one, and yet, keep the printing runs under a hundred at a time, and sell them locally. Probably an impossible dream...

The very last words young Fergal McNally heard in his life were:”Don’t lean out the window!” The very last sounds were probably the air whistling past his sticky-out ears as he fell the fourteen stories, the honk of traffic horns below (getting nearer and nearer, of course), and–– possibly–– the SP of the SPLAT! He himself made as he hit the pavement. Fergal certainly wouldn’t have heard more than the SP, though, because by the time the LAT! Part had followed he would have been well and truly dead.
