Just wanted to let you all know that I was admitted to the hospital (Jefferson) yesterday. Eric (E double) has my contact info if anyone wants it. I can't stay on the phone for a real long time, but I can talk for a little bit for anyone who feels like calling! Just get the info from Eric or PM me and I'll get it to you next time I sign online. Had a PICC line placed in Interventional Radiology (CVIR) today because the PICC nurses tried 4 times themselves and then turned me over to the "big guns." So far everything is going well. I was cluster free for over 24 hours, but then just got slammed at around 11pm. Damn beast! Good thing the O2 and ice packs generally work fairly well for me! Can't write anymore tonight...I'll update when I can. Hugz, Lizzie2/Carrie

Thanks for the thoughts, vibes, etc. So far medication wise I have just had cogentin, droperidol, and DHE...tonight he added Toradol and Depacon to the mix. He only ordered the Depacon once, but I think I can get it for 3 days without the side effects killing my liver! We'll see...I wrote down my list of questions for when they come in tomorrow, and also about when I get cluster attacks, how long, what helps, etc. This way I can show him some more facts. Well I think I'm going to go to sleep. Love to all and happy new year Hugz Carrie

Thanks again I'm awake now because they came in and got an EKG at like 5:30. So now I'm awake! haha I did have a cluster hit last night and also several intense cluster "shadows" that only lasted about 5 minutes or so. It was almost a premonition that it was going to be one of those nights with the clusters! Fortunately, I slept after that...so I got about 3 hours of sleep last night because I was having trouble falling asleep until late in the night! Luv y'all and Happy New Year Carrie/Lizzie2

Carrie, Just read that you are at Jefferson. I work at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and live in Wilmington, Delaware so I'm not far from you. I went to the headache clinic at Jeff but wasn't too happy with the docs or staff. Finally found a wonderful Neuro. doc, Dr. Cohen, in the GSB building on City Line Avenue. Am going to e-mail my phone # to you in case you need anything. I'm available to help in any way that I can. Do not hesitate to call me!!! Cyndi

Well they are looking for a stronger sleeping pill for me since last night, the 5mg of Ambien I got was like spitting on a bonfire! I slept a whole of 3 hours or so! I've been awake (in the hospital no less!) since 5:30 this morning, so I'm starting to get tired! The PICC line I have in my left arm is good and functional. Unfortunately, I started getting Heparin Sub-Cu, and now it looks like someone beat up my abdomen. Not to mention that two of the sites I got injected decided to spontaneously bleed earlier. Had to throw my new pink pajama shirt into a sink of cold water with a little pack of Woolite. The funniest part about Woolite was that it was in my little complimentary bathroom kit from United Airlines from Nashville when I got stuck overnight in DC and they lost my suitcase! Nice!! hehe So anyhow, today my doc kept me on Cogentin/droperidol/DHE combo. He added Depacon yesterday and renewed that dose for today. He added magnesium since now that I have a PICC, it won't blow my veins. Magnesium IV really hurts! I'm on IV toradol too because that generally helps me in IV form. The weirdest thing was tonight I got 4 nerve blocks. Two were in the occipital nerve which I've gotten many times before. The other two he called supratrochlear I believe...they were above the inner corner of my eyes and up by the eyebrow. It felt cool at first, but then my headache spiked up, and now it is back to a 7 or so. Thanks for all the thoughts and vibes! Cyndi, I'm a nursing student at Jefferson, too. We just did our pediatric clinicals, and I was at DuPont. We needed to trade places! 202 South is my nightmare road! What do you do at CHOP? DuPont was pretty fun. Anyhow...I gotta try to sleep or do something that makes me more tired!! I don't want another night of that 3 hours crap! That's too much like my regular life! hehehe Hugz, Carrie

Carrie, Good morning, Lady. Whew! Sounds like you have been thru so much in the last couple of days while in the hospital. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that they find something that provides you some relief. When you mentioned Toradol, a chill went down my spine. It was prescribed for me after surgery a while back and after just two doses, I had the worst nightmares. Relieved the pain somewhat without all of the side effects of other pain meds but damn, those nightmares scared the poop outta me! I do the billing for about 40 physicians (9 different divisions such as Allergy, Immunology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Dermatology, Metabolism, etc.) at Children's Hospital. The billing is for the physician services not the hospital/facility services. duPont Hospital is about 10 minutes from where I live. I did some work there when I was working as a consultant years ago. Great place!! I e-mailed you my home phone #. I will be here all day today until about 8:00 tonight...am heading out to celebrate New Year's Eve. I'll be home the rest of the weekend and will be on the couch watching the Mummer's parade tomorrow so if you need anything or just want to talk, call me!!! As I said in my e-mail, I work from home most of the time but I plan on being in Philly @CHOP on Monday and at a meeting @20th & Arch Sts. on Friday. I'm hoping you can get some relief from the pain and that you are home soon. Remember....if you need anything or just need to talk, call or e-mail me. If you can't make long distance calls from the hospital, let me know and I'll call you. Cyndi

Hope all this helps you be better able to function and continue your studies. Sucks to be in the hospital over New Years. Maybe you can do as suggested and have your own little private party in your room. Wishing you a Happy PF New Year. Gator

Thanks again for all the messages! I spent last New Years in the hospital, so apparently this is becoming a trend! hehe But instead of going inpatient every 5-6 months, I went a year this time. That's mainly because of nursing school, but I'm happy enough with how far I've come! The bleeding from my injection sites has FINALLY slowed down. Now they have to do the injections in my thigh instead of my abdomen because of the craziness with the bleeds! Other than that, had 2 CH hits today...which really doesn't sound like anything to whine about, but the DHE, etc should really be keeping it under control! I got more injections today...trigger points in my face, neck, and upper back. Have to see if the one doc will inject the left side of my neck because he seemed to have skipped a spot! Everyone has been very nice, which is cool. My mom brought me these two packs that can be heated or chilled. One is big enough to put behind my neck and the other one is perfect for the forehead or covering eyes. That one is filled with lavender and flax seed (in their seed form), and the other one for my neck has a lot of different scents in it, but to me it overall smells like Vicks' Vaporizer! hehe Anyhow...that's about it for now! Cyndi....do you do billing for orthopedics at Presbyterian because that is a UPenn Hospital? or do you just stick to CHOP stuff? A kid I graduated with in high school has two parents who are doctors. I know that Bonnie Nye is the one who is orthopedic at CHOP. I see Dr. Garino out of presbyterian for my avascular necrosis. I liked him a lot. Better like the person who is going to be operating on you...especially if it requires multiple operations! haha I haven't checked my email on yahoo in a really long time, but I'll try to do that soon! Maybe I could give you a call when I have downtime here tomorrow or something! Hugz to all, Carrie

Carrie, Good morning, Lady. Getting a late start this AM....my boyfriend's band played at a party last night and by the time we got everything cleaned up and all of the band equipment packed into the van, we didn't get home until about 3:30 this morning so we slept in a bit...well, I should say that we tried to sleep in. Would have stayed in bed longer but the dogs had other plans for us and insisted I wake up and let them outside. I'm watching the Froggy Carr Comic Brigade in the Mummer's parade laughing my butt off!! They are doing a tribute to my hero, Jimmy Buffett. A bunch of them are dressed as Parrotheads...cool! Glad to see they managed to make it to the parade on time this year. I think it was last year when they were so drunk they got lost in the city on their way to the parade route and no one could find them. Go figure...over 600 drunken Mummers lost in the streets of the city? Gotta love Philly traditions! Someday I hope to see the parade in person. I do billing for CHOP docs only. There are times they do consultations at satellite hospitals like Abington, HUP, Crozer so I bill for those consults. too. I'll be home all day and all night so please call me if you feel up to it. I know I won't be doing much more than making trips to the 'frig and back to the couch today since I'm pretty worn out from all of the dancing I did last night! Hoping that the injections and treatments you are getting are helping and that you will be home soon. Even though you are getting great attention from the hospital staff, there's no place like home!! Look forward to hearing from you!!!! Cyn
