Arachnophilia

Fighting to free myself becoming
more deeply entangled with each flailing attempt.
One strand, then another, and another being slung around
  my body holding me fast.

Immobilized, I can only shiver as cool glassy limbs
enfold me in their delicate, terrible embrace.
The humming voice fills my ears, resonates against my skin,
so soothing and I am hypnotized as I gaze into a hundred
glowing eyes that blaze like Japanese lanterns.

Scream with horrible pain and excrutiating pleasure as
the fangs lance into my eyeballs sending
bright fireworks of ecstasy exploding thruogh my body and
bone-chilling numbness begins to spread like taffy through my limbs.
Oh! The colors! The shrieking colors and exquisite shattering of light!
My mind reels sinking into lethargic reverie and unspeakable bliss.

Uncaring, numb, swaddled in a gossamer wrap of silk.
I raise my own voice weakly to harmonize
with the cradlesong of the spider
and joyously relinquish myself to the feast.

Thanks, Nani. I've checked into getting published before, but poetry is a very narrow market, and most publishers aren't interested in an author unless they are guaranteed at least 5,000 copies of something being sold, and since they can't, then they ask the author to foot a large chunk of the printing costs, and expect the author to tour around and actually hock the book.  Undecided As ever, the almighty dollar is king.  Tongue

OH- bummer. Here's an idea...get with paul (vig) and start getting those posters made. Printing probably wouldn't be as costly, you can start small and start selling them locally. I bet you could even find some folks (maybe even in England) willing to market them.  Wink  Just thought I'd nag...

Thanks, Marlin. Yeah, some of it comes from the Beast, some of it comes from a chitty childhood, and some of it comes from relationships I've been in. I've led an interesting life. LOL

Thanks Frank... just thanks mate! If I have spider related nightmares tonight I'm coming after you and I'm going to sing to you.
Be afraid!
Actually when I read it thinking about it from a different angle.. ie life experience it was even more harrowing. You really have captured the "victim" in me.

Thank you, Helen. Sorry this one was a little scary. I read something some years ago, that by far, arachnophobia is the most commonly reported phobia, when compared to other fears. (Water, heights, peanut butter sticking to the roof of one's mouth, etc.) LOL

The weather and all the rain that we've had this year, in Tennessee, has given us some of the biggest damn spiders I've ever seen. The common wolf spider is everywhere, but this year, I've seen some that were as large as small tarantulas! *shudder*

As for the other angles of this piece: I've been in relationship situations that feel just like this. Fight to be free, only to grow further entangled, and in the end, feeling thoroughly powerless...
