I started Topamax today!

I have been in cycle with a few small brakes since March of this year.
So my Nero has decided to try me on Topamax.
Here is my question, For those of you on it what is your dose mine seems a little low, but then I know nothing about this med.
First week I take 25 mg a day after that 50.

Honey, Are you sure you wanna take that? My Dr. was really pushing it on me but I said "NO" only because everyone here had such scary things to say about it!! Since I don't know I shoudn't say anything, just want you to be okay! Hope all goes!

I make due with a single 100mg dose about 3 hours before bedtime, since the 'stupids' last about 8-9 hours for me with it.
A few gallons of liquids each day is the ticket to avoid the much discussed kidney stone thingy. I never had a prob with that... but tossing drinks into the mix is not a bad thing.
And from our friends at www.crazymeds.org... Sodas and other carbonated beverages will utterly taste like ass, so you may as well give them up now if you're considering Topamax. Not a word of a lie. I took my second one last night and am already there.

Soda is not a problem hardly ever drink the stuff anyway, but what about beer thats carbonated will that taste like ass now? Crap now that will kill me!

Naww... Just another good reason to upgrade what you drink. Beer is for dumb college kids. Go with a nice single-malt 16-year old Isley scotch and you'll never look at beer the same way again.

It used to be a trigger for me everytime, but not anymore.
I have no Idea what made the change I just know that until this year any liquor/ beer/wine even a sip and I would get hit. The only thing I have to stay away from that I know of right now is MSG, Hot Dogs, and Red wine.

I went up to 100 mg's of the stuff, did not work for me and could not handle the side effects very well, also watch out when you drink, it really enhances the effects and can cause more trouble....

Dopymax is not a drug taht effects the heart the way Lithium does. Pam explained it to me but I was under dopymax haze at the time. something about the leangth of time between heartbeats...but exactly what I don't know. Thats why if I wanted that instead, I'd have to have a baseline EKG first....and like I have the money for THAT?

I hope it works for you. No idea why your neuro is starting you off so low. My neuro started me off at 100mg at bedtime for 7 days, then upped it to 100mg in the morning and at bedtime. Topamax takes about 6 weeks to fully get into your system. I had the absolute worst nightmares of my life while taking that stuff and it made my ch worse. My wife eventually had to take my car keys from me 'cause I was dangerous behind the wheel.
Dope-a-max: Just feel those IQ points slipping away.
Redd, I made that connection too. Hope we are both wrong.

Not like I'm complaining nor trying to hijack someone's thread.......I got pleanty liquored up on my honeymoon with no "ill effects" did not trigger jack-CHit....nearing month 7 of this cycle........hmmmmmmm that just made me think too.
Nevermind...it is what it is....
Oh yeah...my neuro wants me to try that stuff too.

Topamax is an anticonvulsant right? I've never used it, but I take Neurontin which is also an anticonvulsant. It seems to be pretty benign as far as side effects, for most people at least.

I have been on Topamax for a week now ....still feel like my head is going to explode ....on week number 6 of this madness ...Cat scans, MRI, MRA , what else can i get these dr's to do im ready to throw in the towel ...All I do is eat a lil. sleep alot , and pop pills, and spray stuff up my nose ... Topamax definitely is an anti-convulsant. It was 100% effective for my seizures and the only drug that ever was. Unfortunately, I was one with some crappy side-effects. It affected my memory and make me a little unsure of myself. I had to stop it. It may work fine for you though. It has to be increased and decresased very slowly.
