Anyone know anything bout this crap.......I called my docs office Thursday mornin about my possible broken foot deal.......insurence usually wants you refer'd there and not jus GO or else yer not cover'd. The nurse got pissy with me tellin me I shouldn't of called them cuz there's nothin they can do and to go to the ER......she acted mad that I bother'd her and that I was the resident ass-hole for not goin directly. Could of probly made an apt with my doc and waited several days to a week but um.......not with this. I told her 3 times I thought my insurence would give me GRIEF if I just took myself to the ER without my doc sending me. She said fine...."if" they call her she'll 'tell em' she talked to me....in a sorta cocky smart ass manner. So now I am hearin I will prolly get stuck with the entire bill cuz my doc DID not really send me. I didn't know what else to do. I don't remember the hospital askin me if he sent me anyhow but think I did mention to one of the many I had to talk to in fazes that the office said they could not do nothin and to jus GO. Not sure it was documented. I do everything WRONG dam it.......don't want a freakin astronomical bill cuz of ME and I didn't wana gonna go in the first place anyhow. Sumtimes I hate myself. Time will tell.....but our new insurence starts after Xmas so (new $ 2,000 deductable....what a gem.....were screw'd)......this is gonna be a tough and stupid one. Caused by one even stupid'r. Anyone know the procedure on this ? Pain in the ass and foot Pam

It's hard to say for sure without knowing what kind of coverage you have, but, a broken foot should be ER worthy. I don't think you need a referral to the ER unless it's something that could be treated in a GP's office. So no ER for a cold, yes for a break or a heart attack. Imagine waiting to get a referral for a heart attack! Just my Donna D and cschick are the experts though.

That makes sense nani......I did wait till morning tho to call the doc's office to get there 'word in' thinkin it had to be that way. But yeah.......if ya break somethin on a weekend and doc's offices are closed.....are ya supposed to WAIT till he gives the OK days later.....ouch.....and that could cause further health risks in some cases. Hmmmmm......maybe I didn't screw ourselves into more debtism ? I'm a lill nervous about it cause it COULD be a BIG ASS bill. But.....the way insurence co's are now days.......I dunno !? Yeah maybe Donna or cschick can shed some light on this one. I'm jus hearin from the shop that I fucked up......which makes me feel BAD and stupid. Is jus a dumb foot......and a dumb question I am waistein all ya's time on. Royal bah humbug and a half Pam

Stop being so hard on yourself, coots. The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked. You do so many things right (like sittin' in the washer lol), but I only hear you talking about what you think you did wrong. You are a wonderful, smart and funny person. I want you to look in the mirror today and say out loud: "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and doggone it! People LIKE me!"

Coots, I'm assuming you have an HMO...you said "I called my docs office Thursday mornin about my possible broken foot...: That's all you need to do. Most HMO's want you to either call your Doc to get instructions (non-emergency) or call after your well (Emergency). You already did that. I would say you have nothing to worry about except the co-pay. Jimmy

Just goes to show where American "Service" has GONE out the WINDOW!!!!!!!!!! Excuse the heck out of me for calling a Dr.'s Office for information!!!!. I work at a daycare, seeing sick kiddos all the time. Most of the parents are run ragged by over bearing "secretaries" Who weild the master key to the doctor's ear like they are prison wardens or something. Meanwhile the Doctor makes comments at the visits like, "This is just a simple cold, why idd you waste my time bringing them in?" or, on a subsequent visit: "This is a serious infection. WHJy did you wait so long to come in?" How the hell are we supposed to knoe the difference? is what the parents ask. I mean, isn't that the whole point of having a doctor on the wallet watch? To get a read out of what could be wrong, and find the means and tools to "fix it?" in this day and age when the darn insurance payment is more inflated than my house and car payment stictched together..... why do i have to be battered and bruised by Nurse Ratchet.... If I call the office, I want information, not an attitude! God bless you for double thinking your actions, and I hope that "asisstant" mends her ways before she chases off most of the clients Please, notify the doctor about her attitude so they can revise the training manual. Looks like they really need to review "Customer Service" policy

Damn straight, Nani and Tet. Cootie, you did the right thing, and please please stop blaming yourself. If it turns out to be a really big bill, the hospital will work with you so that you can pay in installments. Hell, most hospitals are operating at a loss anyway, thanks to the illegal aliens who don't have insurance and don't have any money, so for them to read you the riot act is just asinine and smacks of a really deep and unforgivable hypocrisy. I would report that nurse, too. Most of all, please don't hate yourself. You are a wonderful, lovable, and lovely person. Hating yourself isn't going to help anything, and as someone who has been through years of self-loathing, it really tears me up to see someone else flogging themselves unnecessarily. Love you. -Frank

Pam - If you have a PPO you don't need a referral to go to the ER - if you have an HMO the hospital will send the paperwork to your Dr's office to fill out and it will be submitted with your claim. Don't stress about it. It will all work out just fine! The LOVELY secretary probably doesn't know her ass from a hole in the ground. Believe you me, I deal with these people day in and day out - amazes me that they actually get jobs. I feel when you are dealing with 2 of the biggest worries in peoples lives - their health and their money - you gotta have a little compassion. If it will make you feel any better you can call and log a complaint against her through your insurance company. These complaints are actually taken care of, believe it or not! Hope you have a less stressful day! Karen

THANKS GUYS......I'm goin to sound more stupid here but I just have what I'd call regular insurence ? But it's for a shop of less then 9 employee's which is why our premiums and deductbles and all that jazz is out of site and KEEPS changeing year to year to where they have to switch to a lesser policy sam co to stay in a ball park figure since the shop pays most of it. I don't want to raise a STINK with the doc's office cuz um.....them girls refil our scripts and talk to the doc for ones that have to be picked up at the office to be filled so I don't want on there BAD SIDE. Brad said the other boss told him I screw'd up so it got me purdy upset.....what else could I do......and yeah.....what if it was a broken hip or sumthin. Wait till the nurse can squeeze you in for an appointment next week first ?? So the entire process has me worried. And we don't need a friggin bill the size of Texas either to solely pay with a statement on it say.....Pam fucked up.....as the reason of no payment. Not thrilled about the new insurence plan comeing up shortly either......most of the shop families will NEVER meet that deductble to have it pay a cent all year long. WTF.....why bother. Figued lot of you guys been to the ER and mite know some of the ropes.....thanks fer all the info. Much appriciated. Crappy mood for a crapy day Pam Am reading and hearin this sort of BREAK requires you off of it for 6 to 20 weeks and alot of times stupid surgery. Huh ??? I'm sure !!! I have been on my feet ever since.....painfully so.....but ya gotta do what ya GOTTA DO. And any further crap will of course fall under my new astronimical deductable so I may jus get out the duct tape. Screw that.

Pam - who is your insurance carrier - the company - is it Bluecross/Blueshield, Great West, etc. I want to help you so badly. I know how confusing it can be, but I really think it should be ok. Do you know if you have a copay for ER? If you do the ER charges should apply to the copay, now the bad news, the dr that saw you, radiologist that read the xrays, etc can bill seperately and that could be subject to deductible and coinsurance. Do you know what your deductible and coinsurance are? Take out you insurance card and call the # on the back and they should be able to explain how the claim will process to give you a little piece of mind.

I'm thinkin there may be NO copay for ER and why the other boss at the shop said I fucked up cuz of instructions to only go on referel from your doc......so there must be some sorta copay I'd imagine IF you follow the rules. I thought I was doin good waitin all nite then callin my docs office soon as they open'd to get advice 'and' get a referal to go to the ER. But......there is a new building next to my docs big office building that he sends people to for physical theropy and exrays and all that jazz. So......I'd of figured I'd of been sent THERE and then 'take it from there'....the ortho doc I am goin to tomarrow is in THAT same building also. Instead the nurse said it was stupid I called her office and to go elsewhere. Yeah I should maybe find that number and call them but last time I did that they totally confused me. And what they told me wasn't exactly how it worked out. We have Anthiem or whatever ya call it rite now at least till the new one starts after Xmas. Seems ya pay in SO much and all these co's do if make it so they will NEVER have to pay for anything.......I think the premium is goin up 33 % after Xmas so the shop is switching. I figure they upped the rate so much to offset what they DID end up payin for for some of us with medical issues and high priced meds. Brad's trex scripts I am stocking up on been running $ 500.00 each they been payin for since our deductable fineally kicked in half way thru the year. Scams are us hater Pam Thanks for the info...................
