When is is 'polite' to say or think.....enuff donateing for the needy is enuff ? Is it wrong to say no ? I am bombarded with freinds wanting us and others to donate to needy people or families they know.....some are asking us to deposite money is special accounts for these people. I love them all and what they are doing......but I am gettin tapped out. I feel so GUILTY tho. Is that ok ?? We are donateing to two separate groups tonight at our Xmas party......I have ALOT of people to buy for between me and Brad's families as it is plus grand kids. So.....gettin more requests to donate today to other causes. I jus don't know what to say. Even just a couple dollars each after a while adds up with SO many requests. Thanks all and have a great weekend. Chief 'Broken Foot' Pam (that feels bad to say no) PS: This has NO connection to my CH family here.....this is just stuff goin on at home type donateing.

It is appropriate to tell people that "things are tight at the moment" There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and you should not feel guilty. and if you are "made" to feel guilty then that is a problem with those who are asking. Good luck and happy holidays! Eric

That's a hard one, Pam. I know I feel the same way, too. We only have so much, can't give so much that we end up without. I usually say that I can only put so much aside for giving and it's pretty much first come, first serve. If we don't limit ourselves, someday we may be on someones "give to" list. I feel bad, too. So now I give all the love I can, whenever I can. I have an endless supply of love, but not money. And I keep mentioning to God that when I win the lottery a big chunk of that money will be earmarked for charity.

Here is an honest way to get them off your back. I'm sorry, but I've already given away what I budgeted for donations this season, but thank you for thinking of me. That way you are not offending them and you can use it over and over again.

Yup, Coots, just decide what you can give for the year, and when the money is gone, it's gone. Then as the year goes by, decide which and what charities you really want to donate to. There is nothing wrong with saying - well, I'm sorry by I donate to a lot of charities, all worthwhile, as is your cause ... but my budget for this year has already been spent.

Well for starters....I screen my calls...but then if it is coming from friends, that is something different! I used to be a pretty heavy collector for THON at Penn State which benefitted the Four Diamond Fund for Pediatric Cancer at Hershey Med Center. I always donated a great deal to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and ran a walk-a-thon for them once. Then I've given to March of Dimes, but my donation wasn't huge. They sent a thank you note and then continued to ask for more money! I was like...hrmmmmm.... The other day in my nursing program they were sending around a sign-up sheet to buy the Breast Cancer Support Bracelet. I already have one that my boyfriend gave me, so at first I was just going to pass it on. Then I thought...sheesh I should get one for my mom...they are selling them for $3 and then donating the profits to Breast Cancer Research. So...I got sold again. Right now my money has to go into the pay off Carrie's credit card fund, so I just tell people that I'm sorry but unable to donate at this time. Donating blood around here and back at Penn State is a HUGE deal though. They give you paid time off here, a free t-shirt and all kinds of stuff. OK so 4 hours of free paid time?? Dang. However, I can't give blood, but I still feel guilty when they ask and I have to say no sorry. So one time someone asked me at Penn State, and I said, "No. I am unable to donate blood." They gave me a strange look and were like...uhh ok sorry! hehe Carry around your pills, needles, etc and start hacking a lot...they won't ask about donating blood anymore! Bwahaha...not that I'm recommending that! Can't save 'em all! We do what we can. Lizzie2/Carrie

Its sometimes hard but never wrong to say no. I'm not sure if your talking about donating as a person or from a company but one of the things I was shown is that it is much more affective to give the people the tools to generate more money rather than a flatout cash donations. In other words give what you can at cost and let them sell for a profit.

Jonny, why don't you just sell THAT and none of us would have to worry about money for charity. We could get it from YOU !

You just have to say no. Or “We would like to help your cause but we have charities we give to and that’s all we can give. Sorry, maybe at a later time”. A big problem with giving is if you do your name can go on a list. The list, titled ‘Hey, we got money from these suckers, you give ‘em a try’ is sold to any organization that wants it. If you give, just for example, to the Red Cross you can expect within a week to get a mailer from 10 other charities. My wife and I have 3 charities that we give to and that’s all. Jerry’s Kids, The Shade Tree Shelter (for abused women and children) and at Christmas, our favorite for many years, we have selected a name(s) from the Angle Tree for battered, abused, abandoned kids. It’s our favorite but I really hate that shopping day. We shop most of the day and have to think about these kids and the environment they live in and, ……..well….. I hate to cry in public. It’s a very humbling experience. Try it, you’ll like it.

Ah gee Kevin.........blush blush for the I love cootie fund. I just have so many freinds that keep comeing up with more people or freinds to help they say are in need and I am just all of a sudden turned off by it all. They set up dinners at churches or bank account funds......then if you don't make it you feel like your makeing a statement you 'don't care' since a close friend is tryin to get everyone to go.......ya feel like your letting them down. But after a while you become numb......not like were broke and can't afford to give more....but....where does it end. Help people pay off houses......credit cards.......kids braces.......where's it all end ? Some freinds have had poker runs and benifeit dinners for others we knew and we KNOW they spent the money on more custom parts on there bikes.......new liveingroom sets.........stuff like that. They ran themselves into debt and were barely keeping themselves from downing till they got sick for a few months. Some have met families they feel sorry for.....but what's the real story ? Anyhow.....this has nothing to do with people here......just people tryin to help people. There's jus too dam many of them tho. Thanks for the input..........Broken foot fund Pam

Ah shit. It's easier to say "no" for a geezer like me. I just tell them I send all my local donations and other stuff to The Salvation Army, (true) and it always stops them cold. Hard to argue with that. Actually OUCH is a good place you know. Mean old Charlie
