This summer at the zoo in Portland Oregon, the grandkids and I were on the train through the park and I shot it from there.

My parents used to have peacocks.. until they all turned into fox dinners one by one but that is a different story! They are very beautiful birds ( and vain!) but by 'eck they make a horrific sound! I was seeing this guy and he had come out to our home for lunch and as he was leaving Pat the peacock put in an appearance. Every time this poor old git tried to reverse out of the space he had parked in the peacock squawked and he stalled the car. After about ten attempts my dad, with tears streaming down his face, finally shooed the peacock away with chocolate biscuits ( very wily bird.. wouldn't go for just any old biscuit!) And that was another fine romance shot to sheet!

When I lived in San Antonio we lived down the road from a Peacock Farm (yes they have peacock farms, and no I don't know why). Well for the first couple of months we lived there we were mystified by the strange noises coming from down the road...If you have never heard a hundred or more peacocks at the same time...well...it CAN be a bit frightening. Finally a neighbor clued us in.... Thank goodness...we were truly stumped. DD

They make JUNGLE sounds I think esp up in trees. A freind used to raise them in his barn years ago and they all got loose. We'd go over and they'd be up in the trees and out in the woods........very haunting sound if your not used to it or heard it for the first time. Pretty birds.....this guy raised them and hatched the eggs. What a yoke Pam

Beautiful... The Black-Eyed Susans are a nice contrast, too.
