Confessions of a habitual consumer.

I am about to go buy one of these, the urge to buy this new car is like a snowball rolling down a hill, it gets bigger every moment.  Right now I have no car payments, which is comfortable and very nice, but that is about to change and at this point I do not think I can stop it.  Help!  No, don't help, I want it.

Go for it John. You’ll love that car.

Last week I went looking at new cars. At the Lexus dealer I was told that to buy the car I was looking at I’d have to sign a letter to the Homeland Security Department stating my finance money was not coming from a terrorist group. Do terrorist groups buy $62,000 cars?

The next day I was looking at the Mercedes Benz cars and I ask about the Homeland statement. No, I was told, not for buying a Mercedes.

A month ago I bought another house a few blocks from myself. Among the paperwork  there was one from the Homeland Security Department that we had to sign stating the money for the mortgage did not come from a terrorist organization. Anybody know how many terrorists are buying houses in Henderson, Nevada? Just wondering.

Hmmm…. If I buy Lexus the money goes to Japan and must be declared free of terrorism.

If I finance my new house with American money and it stays in America it must be declared free of terrorist interests.

But, if I buy the Mercedes the money goes to Germany and there is no statement to sign.

Is there something wrong with this picture?

Wow John... awesome car... the look is incredible and kinda futurist... really neat car Wink If you can afford it go ahead my friend... please yourself Wink

Remember though... cars are usually not a good place to put your money in... 30% lost of value as soon as you buy it Wink

take care bro... have fun... You know what you should do today... Go ahead and go try it... Cool

I have always wondered what it'd be like to buy a brand spanking new car.  The closest I've come is the car we just bought about 2 months ago.  It's a 2000.

Anyway, let me know what it feels like...

Awesome ride.  That thing is sharp.

Phil nailed it though... that 30% year 1 depreciation keeps me away from the lots.

Stalking ebay for 2-3 months until the right one comes up can be fun.  ie...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=53 33&item=2498286488&rd=1

We bought my wifes late-90's JGC on eBay after checking a few times a week for 2 months.  Found it about an hour away... scalped it for about 70% of wholesale.   Grin

That said, I admittedly hoard my money.  You would all laugh in my face if you knew what my primary driver is.   Grin

Good luck whatever way you go... you know what you are doing!

Actually it's not.  It's easy to confuse them because they look alot alike in a photo; but the smaller, cheaper Acura TSX is the one based on the European Accord.  The Acura TL model has the frame of the larger US Accord.  But it has a more powerful engine, a much better suspension, a sportier body and of course alot more goodies.   As you can see I have been dwelling on this a while  Wink

In America everything is (at least) 5 inches longer. Shocked
Except in Texas. Then it's 10 inches.  Roll Eyes

John, don't listen to the cheapskates. Buy what YOU want. Buy the absolute best that you can afford. If you settle for less you will just be pissed off and hate it until the day you can get rid of it.

Getting back to this terrorist thing - if you were in fact financed by a terrorist group, what are the chances you'd admit that in writing?  Is this where our tax dollars are going?

I work within the banking industry and all the laws relating to money laundering have recnetly changed owing to (largely) terrorist activity. You would be amazed at some of the crap people do to "clean" money and buying cars and property is one of them. They can buy a car for $20, 000 dirty money, sell it on for $18,000 for arguments sake and that is then "clean" money from a legitimate source. The company I work for is actually an American one and the laws have changed over there too. Now I have to report all suspect activity and get it NCIS checked, if I don't and it is then investigated and found to be dodgy I personally can be prosecuted not the company so with the onus on ME I'm going to make damn sure I find out where your payments are coming from!
Just another thing to hate Osama Bin Laden for.. as if I didn't have enough work already!!!!
