Air Force Services has a scholarship essay program each year and this year's subject was "What does freedom mean to me". I've attached the winning entry for 2004. This entry was written by a college-bound son of a retired AF member. It is a very poignant essay. http://members.cox.net/catlind/2004winner1stplace1.pdf Cat

Cat, I am in awe of the talent shown by this student.I always find it hard to put my thoughts into words.I have also thought that schools have been to lax on teaching history in schools.I'm glad to see this student has not just memorized the lessons but really taken them to heart. Many things we will go through in life will have threads of the past woven in them. (does that make sense or am I just rambling as usual ?) Minnie

Made sense to me. That was a very nicely written essay and very true. I have had the opportunity to vist Washington DC, the monuments and memorials and etch a friends name off the Vietnam Wall. It was quite an experience to see the White House up close and personal and to remember what our Great Country stands for and how much we have achieved in the past years. God Bless Freedom and America Ruth
