Thank you to all of you who welcomed mooshie into the family in such a warm and loving way. I feel like I should tell you about us...
mooshie-moo is my 8 year old grand daughter whom I have been raising since she was 8 months old. (I also have been raising her brother who is 11 since his infancy)When she came to me she had been living in a garage and sleeping in her carseat for a month, and had experienced neglect from her drug addicted mother. She may also have been abused by mom's live in boyfriend (who is now serving time for molesting a 5 year old). She was always (since birth) very serious and intense and needless to say came to me with MAJOR issues. She immeadiately bonded herself to me in a very unhealthy way. She would crash her walker into the bathroom door if I was in it, she would scream if I left the room. It was pretty rough. Our relationship didn't improve as she became more secure, in fact, she found in me a safe place to put all of her anger and rage and frustration. She, in many ways, made my life hell. She was charming and just wonderful to outsiders, but the family and I were paying a price. We had been in counseling  (her third time) for about a year when the doctor decided to try ritalin for her hyperactivity. It worked like a charm and her behavior improved THAT DAY. It has been a year and little by little we are re-building a healthy, loving relationship. When she first asked me to post on this board, I felt like she was trying to invade my space. I reluctantly let her and when she read the replies she was thrilled by your acceptance. Since then, I have found her to be especially loving of me and respectful of my pain and need for space. In a way, this monster (CH) has brought us closer together...  I'm grateful to all of you for making it this way for us. She and I plan on stickin' around... hug

you are a very strong lady - I just read the response to my post and make sure to take your own advice.  Take some time for yourself.  I can't wait to meet you in person some day!  I will always remember what you did for me and I hope that someday I can do something to return the favor.

Love to you and Mooshie!!

Thank you all for your kind words, both here and in my PMs. I just want you all to know that I am so blessed and lucky to be able to raise these wonderful, precious children. I was a teen age mom and didn't do a great job with my kids. I did the best I could with what I knew. My daughter's drug problems weighed very heavily on me for a long time. I thought it was all my fault. I've forgiven myself and tried to support my adult kids without enabling them. I am happy to say my daughter (mooshie's mom) has been clean for 1 1/2 years and is raising her 5 year old (I had her for awhile, too). What God has give me with my grandkids is a chance to redeem myself as a parent. I enjoy every single minute - the soccer games, girl scouts, volunteering at school as much as I did the first time (maybe more - I know how fast they grow up now). I wouldn't trade this for anything. I have adopted the two I have here, so their lives would not be an endless shuffle. They enjoy a loving relationship with their Mom and have blossomed in the stability and love my husband and I have been able to give them. Thanks again, it's so great to have all of you. Kiss
