Mooooo - Got Milk

In 2002, a Wall Street Journal dispatch from Cuba, suggesting that Fidel Castro's 1987 vision of "apartment cows" was still a ways off. (Castro had pushed farmers to breed small cows, not much larger than dogs, that families could keep in small homes and that would supply their minimum daily quantities of milk.) Two months after that story ran, a farmer in Rockwell, Iowa, said he had bred such miniature cows but that they were not good milk producers. Cut to September 2004: An Associated Press dispatch from San Juan Y Martinez, Cuba, touted rancher Raul Hernandez, who has now apparently successfully created a small herd of 28-inch-high cows that can deliver about five quarts of high-quality milk. Technocratic dumb hineys. If you want small animals to milk, look to goats, sheep, or lamas. If you are worried about vitamin A deficiency causing blindness, no need to genetically engineer rice to contain carotene - just convince people to eat carrots, tomatoes, sweet potatos, or any other plant with carotene, or take a spoon of fish oil 4 times per year. Willy Wonka's meal-in-a-pill machine will never be perfected, and neither will the perfect breed.

| Yeah, for a developed country. Not so fucked up for a third world country. Course they could end up with cows with wings, gills, and a beak. By the way, where is the second world and how does a third world country qualify?

| Don, isn't it a little convenient for a 3rd world country to have mini cows in their homes? Is Cuba a 3rd world country? Or would some say Cuba is a 2nd world country? Just what IS a second world country? Anyway, you'd think America would have them in every home right now... Of course, I live in WI, and the milk is in pretty good supply, along with family members owning dairy farms. Don't get me started on gills and wings.... yikes

OMG, I was just thinking about a guy coming up to you on a city street and saying, "Wanna buy a cow? He'll fit in your suitcase..." I wonder what they'll go for on the black market... Next thing you know they'll serve a dual purpose, like, get free milk for 5-10 years then freeze her for a 1/2 winter of food.... Of course, usually 3rd world countries don't have winter.... I guess that'd be a problem....
