21 year old Emerson College student killed by police firing bean bags to control unruly crowd.

My sympathies are with the girls family but not with unruly crowds.

Agreed Don.

But the Boston police are accepting full responsibility....whatever that means  Huh

I also heard the Mayor of Boston is considering a city wide ban on alcohol during the World Series.
Seems to me that might make it more unruly than ever before.

I read that this mornign and was pretty tore up about it.  I mean, a girl out celebrating gets killed.  A cop trying to control a crowd unintentionally kills a young girl with his use of a "non-lethal" weapon.

Really sad for the girl, her friends and family, and the police officer(s) involved.  I have to ask though, what in the world was that crowd doing that made those officers need to shoot beanbags into the crowd?  You guys know more than me, as you can see the news coverage there.  It just seems to me that a crowd would have to be pretty out of hand for that to happen.

I agree Don, sympathy for that girl, not really for unruly crowds.  I would cautiously say that the crowd shares a great responsibility in her death, despite what the mayor or police department, or her family say.

What a crap situation.

Overturning cars
Burning cars
Damaging business fronts
Throwing bottles
Causing a public safety hazard.

Seems like enough justification to me considering warnings against that type of behavior were issued time and time again.

No one in that crowd can justifiably consider themselves an innocent bystander.

Not much mention of the police officer who had a beer bottle smashed in his face.

That was an unfortunate outcome from such chaos.  The news here said it was a rubber bullet.  They used rubber bullets back in the seventies, wasn't a picnic, don't know now.
