All that GW talk got me thinking.... Have you ever seen a celebrity closeby? My best is Prince Charles, who actually visited my former university in London. There's no use mentioning the Finnish celebs I have seen and met, because most of non-Finns have no idea who they are! Best wishes & PFdays, sandie99

Yes, the private school that I work at is pretty much filled with the who's who of Chicago business. Seeing celebs pick up their kids at school kinda brings them back down to earth. Also, my Grandfather worked in the movie industry in Hollywood for 30 years, got to meet many through him. Additionally, working with many elections in the Chicago suburbs, have met many national politicians. Even though they may be from a party different than mine, you still show respect for the office. When you put politics aside, many of them are pretty fun people to talk to. T

I worked construction in down town Chicago for a long time. While working at 900 North Michigan (Bloomingdales/Four Season Hotel), I used to run into someone almost daily. Cher, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray (When I met Eric and Robert, Stevie Ray Vaughn was upstairs sleeping. The helicopter crash that took his life happend that evening.) Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) 3 times in one week. Martina Navratalova, Madonna, Oprah, Bill Murray, Mike Jordan, Ronny Howard, Martin Mull, Mr. T, Dianna Ross. Most of them were really nice easy going people. Eric and Robert stopped and BS'd with me and a couple buddys for over 15 minutes. Steve Tyler was cool too. Dianna Ross smiled at me. Cher laughed out loud at me. (That's another story.) Ronny Howard Actually started the conversation I had with him. He's a class act. There are more but I don't remember right now. It's been a long time. Edited to add the following... Bruce Willis, Patrick Swayze, Gene Sheppard (wrote Christmas Story) Comic magicians Penn & Teller. I almost forgot to mention that I was introduced to Jesus when I was 10 years old. I've stayed in touch with him on a regular basis since then.

I had coffee with Haldor Laxness at his house - maybe not a celeb in the ordinary sense, but a Nobel Prize winner in literature and a very interesting guy to talk to. His attitude towards writing was like Jack LaLane's attitude towards exercise - hated having to do it, but liked the results and felt compelled.

The only celebrity I have ever met was Coolio at a Waffle House in Florida. Thats pretty lame, considering I was at all the Sox games that Ben Affleck was at and never even spotted him. Oh well.

Lots of them while doing extra work on films here: James Woods, while working on Citizen Cohn. Pretty cool, very quiet and focused. John Cusack and Debi Mazar in Money for Nothing. John was cool, much bigger guy than he comes across onscreen. Debi Mazar is a goddess. I worked for a week on the film, and she would come hang out with me on some of the breaks. VERY funny lady, and very down to earth. Danny DeVito and Jack Nicholson in Hoffa. DeVito was amazing to watch. Very affable when the cameras weren't rolling, laser-beam focus when they were on. Nicholson must have tied one on the night before. Couldn't remember his lines to save his life. But had a great sense of humor about it. After 27 takes of the scene, we finally got it. Olympia Dukakis in Cemetery Club. Pure grace and class. Also ran into Nicholas Cage rather early in his career at a club in Honolulu. Really nice guy, actually came up and introduced himself. Chatted with Eddie Izzard (Brit comic, you MUST see him if you haven't before) after a show here. INCREEDIBLY nice guy, VERY intelligent and witty. Didn't seem like he had to be "on" all the time. Hung out a bit with the guys from Barenaked Ladies before and after their first show here in Pittsburgh. Big bunch of goofballs, they were a blast. I know there are more, but that's all that comes to mind immediately. Joe

I had the distict honor and privilege to spend an evening with my all time favorite comedian, Red Skelton. When I told him what a fan I was of clowns (this was before I went to clown college, and became one), he sent me a print of one of his paintings (he was a very talented artist, too) of a clown that he signed personally. I treasure that print. I have met a few other celebs, and even shook hands with JFK (before he was president), but I treasure my evening with Red Skelton the most. Chuck

I had a long conversation on acting with Martin Sheen back stage in a theatre in London...he was staring in a play called "The Normal Heart" He was so gracious. I have met a lot of country stars living here in Nashville. I met and talked with Twiggy and Dame Judy Dench in London. Recently at heathrow Airport, Samuel L Jackson walked past me. But.....by far the WORST celeb I have ever met....Donna Summer......she is AWFUL. Here's the story about her. I was working in a furniture/interior design showroom and she came in (she had been in before). She name dropped the whole time and really let me know how many houses she had. Well she bought about $3000 worth of stuff...which isn't that much in this business. She required it to be shipped to her house in Atlanta... She gave me all her contact info, including her home number and her office number. I called the shipping company and they told me they had shipped for her many times before and they had all her contact info. So that was that. The next day Ms Donna Summer called me up and chewed me a new arse hole. "How dare you give my personal home phone number out to the shipping company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" "I gave that number for you to contact me, not delivery men" I tried to defend myself politley "But ma'am, I didn't give it to them, they already had that number on file from previous dealings with you" "NO THEY DIDN'T" "You should know better than to give out information like that....blah blah blah" So I just let her go off on me until she had her fill. Horrible woman!! What I should have said was "Please Miss Summer, you had better treat me right, cause I work hard for my money" A good friend of mine said I should have got her home number and post it on a Donna Summer fan website. I didn't but was very tempted. She spoke to me something terrible. She is still trying to be a Diva, and the 70's are over.

Four months working on Speed II set. Terrible movie but a great job. Sandra Bullock, Super cool Jason Patrick, spent the whole time trying to coverup his receeding hairline. It was hilarious. Willam DeVoe, normal guy. Jan DeBont. (Director) An not a very nice person, a really dangerous person.

I was walking down a mostly deserted concourse in the Dallas Ft. Worth airport, and George Burns was just strolling along in the opposite direction. When we were close enough, I stopped and said, "Hello, Mr. Burns." He shook my hand, peering down at me, and said, "Well hello there, young man!"

Wow Jayne. The most famous person that slightly acknowledged my existence was Robert Kennedy... He was running for NYS Senator at the time. Mom loved the pix I took of her meeting Nelson Rockefeller too. Dead guys. Quote: Me too at the local college. He told me he hated our weather here. The last one I talked to is Garrison Keillor when he played here at Chautauqua. Guy is almost as ugly as I. You get to see a lot at Chautauqua. Ones that I really enjoyed were Victor Borge and Ella Fitzgerald. Lots of authors show up there too. Charlie

Manasota Key and Casey Key (barrier islands off of Englewood, Venice and Sarasota, like Boca Grande and Sanabel Island) are where homes cost millions....right on the water front of the Gulf Coast. The population of stars and politicians (including Pres. Bush) is pretty great, and when first moving here to Fla., I took a part time job in Venice where several of the stars would stop in and shop. I met Martin of Martin and Rowen, and his wife......she called him "mister" when she addressed him. I've met the big guy who stars in Beatle Juice (Can't remember his name)..he's a really humble man and very nice. The home of Ringlling Brothers circus was in Venice until about 1994. I had a friend who was warehouse manager and he introduced me Gunther Gable, the famous Tiger , elephant ect. trainer and performer. I had the privilege of goofing around with him ond day when he was taking a bunch of elephants for a walk around a track. He repeatedly jumped up in the air clicking his heels until I got the picture that I wanted. A really neat guy who passed away at a young age about 3 years ago.

I shook Muhammed Ali's hand when he was here in Calgary for a publicity thing in the late 70's. Amazing man - eyes that look right through you. Hands the size of ham hocks. Oh and I met Guy Lafleur after one of the first Flames' games, right after they transferred up here from Atlanta. We played the Habs that night and we hung out in the halls of the old Stampede Coral to meet some of them. Guy was the last one out of the dressing room. He has the prettiest brown eyes......*sigh*
