wierd chest pains....

For the past 2 weeks i have had this stange pain in my chest. It is located 5 inches down from my collar bone and 2-3 inches in from my sternum, right about the 3rd rib down. the pain is sharp, and its best friend goes down the inside of my left arm, then his first cousin hits some of the area next to my left clavical. No shortness of breath or tightening... just the pain.... I do not have high blood preassue, but I have "Holy Cow that's high" Cholesterol. Only been tested once though. It comes on with activity... but sometimes just cuz. Not dead yet, so I don't think it will kill me. Just uncompfortable. I still can only get out and about for a couple of hours with any streangth, but after that.... I am dead beat. So just wondering....

Last year my husband had pain like that and thought he was having a heart attack (he had the tightening and pain though) - turns out after an ambulance ride and ER visit that it was a pulled chest muscle. Only other thing I can think of is gallbladder. I know that can cause pain in the upper chest and make you feel like you are having a heart attack. If it gets worse it would be very worth getting checked out!

Does it hurt worse when you breathe in? Have you done a lot of coughing lately? Do you use a cane and is that the side you use to handle it? I think I'd make a call to the doc Monday and talk with him/her about it. Anything around the heart is worth checking out. Got the vibeage going that it is something simple. Gator

I do use a cane, but the opposite side.... No coughing, it is a little more painful when I breathe in when it is happening, but not note worthy. there are some myoclonic muscle twitches... Ok full on body spasms that started about the same time. they don't hurt, but they are wierd.... they feel the same as when I can't stand and fall down.... talked to the neuro about it, and he was not concerned, just the twitches..

Sounds like it COULD be Costochondritis. Which is an inflammation of the sternum area. Check out this website. www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic116.htm But (& a big butt ) depending how old you are...get thee to a Doctor and get checked out. Probably be a good idea to get a Nuclear Stress Test. Just to be on the safe side. If everything turns out good, you'll know the symptoms & not be as worried about it. Good Health Jimmy

I get something weird on the left side.... but it is not aggrivated by exercise. They did a test... CAT with dye.... but you have to hold your breath, and I couldn't.... so it was too blury for them to tell. If cholesterol .... I hope is not a blocked blood vessel.... Best to see a doctor....and rule out what is is not.... Funny thing about heart disease.... It takes years to occur, but doctors are always surprised by the plaque build up. They need to invent a test or something for that..... ( or do they have it already, but the HMOs say it is not neccessary???? ) Either way. Insist Doc check it.

Since cholesterol build up is like little bubbles all piled up, it is impossible for docs or tests to tell when one or more will burst causing a heart attack or stroke. That's why you can have all the tests in the world and walk out of the office or hospital and, well you know what. That's why I take Tricor. My triglicerides were in the 500's and now they're down to the 200's and we have hope of them droping down a little more. It's not very hard these days to bring that high cholesterol down. If cost is a factor, my doc told me that almost all drugs can be had for almost nothing if only your doc is willing to take the time to do a little paperwork. I have a great doc. You say "It comes on with activity..but sometimes just cuz". That's a little scarey. Maybe you have obstructions that won't allow the oxygen that you need to get through. This causes pain. What about during rest? This isn't something to guess about. You need to see a cardiologist now. Cardiac testing is the only way to know if you need a stent, bypass or valve replacement. The survival rate these days is outstanding. Our hospital doesn't lose heart patients due to the heart surgery but to other factors such as diabetes, bad kidneys, etc. that are too severe to withstand surgery, and even then it is rare. Most often, our patients are up and walking the day after surgery and home in 3 or 4 days. Am I trying to scare you? Not really.....just want you to go see a doc.

Don't like your feeling this down your arm. Damn cardiac pain can manifest itself almost anywhere. Ease your mind and let them wheel you around the hospital for a few hours taking tests...... Some kind of ulcer or something maybe. Charlie

Almost felt cardiac. Kind of scary! However, you should always get pain like this checked out! Even when people have heartburn causing chest pains, they need to rule out cardiac issues before going to something less serious. Be careful!! Lizzie

Ditto all the people who say to get it checked out. It could be something very benign ... non-cardiac chest pain is common, but can't be assumed. It could be due to a rib out of place, indigestion, or something else not life threatening. It could also be due to spine problems - a pinched nerve can disturb the chest and arms. But you can't deal with it until it is diagnosed.
