I have worked with the athletes during the Special Olympics for many years. I find absolutely nothing funny about making fun of the children and adults that give their all in the events. I find it extremely distasteful and disgusting that someone could use them in this manner.

I would hope you are right, but according to the reports I have read so far, the flyer was being distributed for about 2 weeks before all the flap started.
Yes, the monkey one was funny. Making fun of political figures is one thing. I have no problem with this. I have seen some pretty funny stuff against both candidates. This goes beyond funny into the realms of as BobG said, "Just plain WRONG." Whoever did this should be publicly flogged and then sentenced to work with special needs children.
Gena, I wonder how hard you would laugh if it was your child's picture with the alterations and captions. Or are you the kind of person that attends the Special Olympics to laugh at the retards?

I'll agree that ad is not funny and quite distasteful.
However, consider the source of the story. Traditionalvalues.org isn't exactly a saintly or unbiased source, they exist solely to deprive Americans of their rights if they don't blindly follow an 1850's mentality. They are as much in the pocket of the GOP as moveon.org is a Democratic organization.
And the news article you link cites the GOP challenger as its source, again not an unbiased source.
Whatever you may think of Democrats, I can assure you that party leadership would never let this fly as an actual campaign flyer.

Sadly, it's not at all unusual in politics. Local elections are the worst. This a pretty damn good way to lose votes too. This guy's campaign workers should know better.
At least George Bush and friends confine their beliefs and campaigning that it's only you and I are low on the learning curve.

You said in the initial post that the democratic candidate "ran the ad". First off, it was a flyer and secondly the candidate has said he had nothing to do with. You chose to ignore that part. What candidate in his right mind would put something like that out? Who would gain from a stunt like that? Not a Republican candidate...naaaahh..
