When ya find it Ken ... Let me know!  Undecided
Yeah, Melatonin worked for a couple months way back when, but hasn't worked again in years. Even recently tried 9mg Melatonin, 1mg Xanax and a couple ExcedrinPM ... nothing!  Tongue
Don't even matter how tired you are eh?

GrinHey,
You could get the Doctor to prescribe you Trazadone to aid in your sleep.  Its also a seratonin uptake inhibitor and will help with the clusters at the same time, No hangover and they work grreat for sleeping!  Also very common prescription for people that suffer from any insomnia.    Pappy

Sleep?.........yeah, now exactly what is that?

Good luck, no answer for you.  Let me know when you figure it out though.   I used to never have a problem and now recently, I can't get to sleep.  I think we all develop anxiety from being awakened by the beast!!!!  That's me anyway.

I take trazadone 50 mg before bedtime and 9mg of melatonin (sometimes about 3 tylenol PMs) Between them I usually get a few hours of sleep to, but have to get up when the old eyes come open or I'll be up with an 8-9 within minutes. Don't lay there and try to doze.

I'm also back on topamax 100mg before I go to bed. Don't have the side effects that everyone says they have - guess I sleep thru them.

The melatonin takes a few weeks to start working. I almost gave up on it before it kicked in, but now swear by it.

Hope you get some sleep soon. Been there - not fun.

Hugs BD

Well, it's 05:25 and look who's still typing.  I have been having major trouble sleeping, which in turn lends itself to more and heavier shadows and more frequent and harder hits.  The wife suggested (demanded?) that I take some of her sleeping pills and get some sleep.  I've tried them before and they didn't work, so this time I doubled up on them.  Was actually down for about 3 hours, but was awakened by a real headbanger.  I guess the beast will have none of that!  5 hours later, I am still wired for sound. I should have known better.  Sleeping pills never work on me.

When I went in for my sleep study, they got frustrated and had me take an Ambien to help me sleep.  EEHHHH!  Wrong answer.  I heard the tech talking outside my door just before I left the next morning saying "Mine never did go to sleep."   It's not like I didn't warn them.  Now the doc wants me to come back in for another study.  Fuck that.  I'm not driving 160 miles round trip just to pay to look at their ceiling all night again.  I can stay awake at home for free.

Not chronic insomnia, but one certain thing works for me on the rare events when I simply cannot get to sleep.

I get laid.

Works every time.  Within 5 minutes I am out.

The risk, of course, is that she will not be able to get back to sleep, but who cares.   Wink

I've tried:
Trazadone...made me too sleepy...couldn't wake up..for days.

Ambien....really only short term....easy to try. Didn't work over time for me because I got used to it and woke up instantly once the half life expired.

Gabitril....also supposed to help with nightmares.....made me falling over drunk..but not sleepy.

Nortriptyline .....worked for a while and then didn't.

Initially, all of these helped me fall asleep....it's the staying asleep that was hard. And continuity over time. The other easy thing I've tried is taking some of my prevents or other meds that have a sleepy side effect and taking them before bed. Sometimes it's enough to kick start decent sleep.

And then thre's the usual non-med sleep hygiene stuff.
Having said all this ....my sleep is crazy and crappy. So maybe none of this is helpful.  Undecided

I've taken two benadryls and that works for me.  Ambien stops working after a while.  There is another antihistimine that also works for me.  It's stronger than benadryl and just might do the trick.  I have some on me but they aren't in the bottle.  So I'll look the name up tonight and maybe your doctor can prescribe it.  It makes you mad sleepy and also works well for allergic reactions to stuff.  Stuey

self-exhaustion.
I've been known to hike 4 or 5 hours, ride a bike, and then take the dog for a walk.
Pain's still here, but I lost weight, I'm in pretty good shape and sleep happens, even if it's just a few hours and I'm somewhat refreshed.  It beats the doped up zombie days.
