The Outsiders by SE Hinton. I read it as a teenager and still like reading it to this day. The Bible is my favorite book. You have murder, lust, adultury, theft, deceictfullness, honesty, good people, miricles, etc. just like a modern day soap opera.

It may be hard to find, but to this day it is still one of the most fascinating/different sci-fi stories I've ever read... The Riverworld Series by Philip Jose Farmer 1st book - To Your Scattered Bodies Go You MUST start with this one before reading any of the others. 2nd book - The Fabulous Riverboat. There are three or four other books in the series, but these first two pretty much set up the rest of them. Sci-fi channel actually did a movie based on the first two books last year. It was pretty good, but I got the feeling that someone watching it without having read the books would be lost and probably not like it. Plus they didn't cover very much of the first book, focusing mostly on the second one.

You wanna read something serious get "Dionysus" by Bentley Little or "The Walking" or "The Store" by Bentley Little. He's horror and on par with Stephen King, Koontz, etc. His books are way off the hook. Stuey

I like the "wheel of time" series by Robert Jordan. It's fantasy adventure typre novels about six kids that become part of the classical struggle of good vs. evil. It's very well written and there are ten novels in the series. Once you get past the first chapter, it really takes off. It kept me occupied for a month PFDAN! John

That's the other one I was trying to remember. "Angels & Demons" is fantastic. I've got another one of his, but I have to finish, "Blowfly" by Patricia Cromwell first. I'm also reading Brother Lawrence's, "Practicing The Presence Of God," and finding it very interesting. "Illusions," by Richard Bach "The Prophet," by Kahlil Gibran "Conversations With God," (first book) by Neale Donald Walsch "A Course In Miracles" "How To Know God," by Deepak Chopra "The Heart Of The Mind," by Jane Katra and Russell Targ "The Soul's Code; In Search Of Character & Calling," by .... (forgot the author's name...) "Musashi," by Eiji Yoshikawa (Give me a minute... I'll think of a bunch more) Bibliophile, -Frank

I have history stuff here so that's probably not your cup of tea. Lots of SF read around here. I do like SF by Larry Niven. Some of it has a little humor but it's usually based on hard science. His "Known Space" stories can be fun. His big one is "Ringworld." For something light, Keith Laumer wrote a lot of pretty funny SF. Not very technical but I enjoyed his lunacy. I haven't read much new fiction in a long long time. Some modern histories can be interesting. Stuff by David Halberstam can be enjoyable. I'm reading his "The Fifties" at the moment. Hope you get a break soon. Charlie

Some good dysfunctional family fiction: Beach Music by Pat Conroy. He wrote the Great Santini. Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt is also good. My other faves are mostly chick lit. Alice Walker, Amy Tan, etc

Glad to hear it but screw Amazon. Go to the library. You get exercise that way. Good for depression In any case happy shopping or crawling through the stacks. Charlie (Shit; I can you you the SF I mentioned. I have multiples of it in PB. Let me know) Charlie
