Nashcon 2004.
Note: I am highly noise sensitive.
I met Barb D and DonnaD at the hotel, as they were the first to arrive, we had a blast all day.
It came to Wednesday evening and a few of us were sat on the porch drinking. I said I had to stop having fun as I had to drive home. “Nah” says Barb. “Stay with me and Donna in our room, you can sleep in the bed with me"”
“Cool” me thinks, now I can have a drink and not worry about driving.
It got to 2.30 am and I realized I had really better get to bed as I had three airport runs to do in the morning.
We all staggered giggling and hiccuping to the room.
Once settled in the bed we started acting like high school girls and couldn’t stop laughing. I started to worry about how much sleep I was going to get. I was going to be responsible for bringing some very precious souls to the hotel, and I needed to sleep. My alarm was set for 7.30 am.
“Ok ladies, we have to stop this….I need to sleep” Giggle, giggle giggle,
“No, I mean it “ Giggle, giggle, snort.
“PLEASE!!!!!!”… 3.30 am, things become quiet and I can finally close my eyes.
Not two minutes later I heard a noise that can only be described as the rumblings of the explosion at Chernobyl. “WHAT THE F….???”
I looked around the room and realized it was Donna D….SNORING”
I am not talking any old snore people. She sounded like six tattooed inmates sawing logs on cellblock D. I couldn’t believe that such a sound could come out of a human, much less a female!!!!
I glanced a look at BarbD to see if this was bothering her…. No, she was peacefully slumbering, quietly mumbling something about her Metamucil Popsicle’s.
I tried as hard as I could to block it out, but, it was nearly perforating my eardrums.
“Bugger this for a game of soldiers”
I decided, there was only one thing for it. I was going to get some sleep in the bathtub.
I tried to gently pull the top cover off Barb….no go…she might have been asleep but she had a rigamortis grip on that puppy.
I took my pillow and went into the bathroom. I laid a thin towel on the bottom of the bathtub. “I can do this”
4 am
I closed the bathroom door and turned out the light and tried to settle into my make shift bed.
I could still hear Donna!!!!
I was slowly relaxing and feeling myself drift off, when my arm became freezing cold. The towel had shifted and my bare skin was on the cold bath tub. “Brrrrrrrr” I rearranged the towel at settled back down.
4.15 am
I was just about to succumb to the comfort of sleep, when…. Drip, drip, drip, drip. “Oh for fuck sake what now” The tap was dripping water on my big toe. I sat up, tightened the faucet, cussed like a sailor and layed back down.
I could still hear Donna!!
4.30 am.
“ahhhhh, sleep” I begged for the darkness..
It was nearly upon me, when…….
I SAT BOLT UPRIGHT. “ What in holy hell?????”
The bloody pipes underneath the bathtub were groaning LOUD.
“SWEET JESUS WHY????” I whined to the heavens.
To add salt to the wounds I could still hear THAT woman snoring through the closed door.
4.45 am
I took my pillow and went back into to bedroom. I crawled back in bed with BarbD . The growling bear woman was still at it next to us.
Finally, I think from sheer exhaustion I drifted off at 5AM.
7.30 Am
The alarm goes off and I am still dead tired.
I look over to the culprit and SHE WASN’T SNORING!!
I get up out of bed and hovered over her, trying to stop the murderous thoughts running through my head.
She slowly opens her eyes and smiles at me. “Good morning” she says.
Through gritted teeth “Morning poppet” I spat venomously.
Needless to say I had help with the airport runs and spent most of the day in my own bed at home cursing Donna and catching up on my LADYLIKE. ZZZZZD’S

Fantastic story Jayne. I loved it.
That room didn't lose its homey, inviting touch all weekend. The maid kept knocking on their door in the morning and no one answered so I directed her away each morning. It was hard to communicate to her..... they in the room, no want clean at 8:00am. It was hard to say with a straight face.
Jayne, you survived a night in there????? One tough chickie you are.

Geezzzz - that's why you were so miffed that morning and kept mumbing, "I'm gonna kill that woman, I'm gonna kill that woman!" Wondered about that.
Why didn't you just turn off your hearing aide? That's what I do!!! I sleep like a baby.

Oh, I am well aware. I guess it read like a good short story or something. I love the way you tell.......ok, not stories......but give an account of an experience.
I checked into the room next door about noon on Friday. After being next to them for two nights, I am a most fervid believer. I "bumped" into Barbara a few times. Nancy took your place the next two nights and probably has "accounts" too. Thanks for the true tales from the bathtub....

That is too funny Jayne! I went on a cruise this summer with my 6 sisters and my Mom and everyone was arguing about who had to sleep with the snorers! We thought we had them all together in one room, but turned out another one in my room was just as bad. Got used to it by the end of the week though. Wish I could have been there!!

Bonnie, I'd bet you a case load of imitrex that you wouldn't get used to Donna's snores,,,it is still beyond me how BarbD slept through that.
I love Donna, but at the next convention I will make sure I am on a different floor than hers.
