A question about (GASP!) SPAM

OK, all you computer dudes ...
I am an absolute Nazi about my virus protection, firewall, spysweeping, adsweeping, etc. Yet, I'm getting inundated with spam wanting me to buy drugs (with or without a prescription), refinance my mortgage, have better sex, etc.
Just got back from a 5 day vacation on the coast of Maine (what a GREAT experience!) and had 145 emails. Ten were ligit from clients. The rest were trash.
Is there anything more I can do?

You have to turn your spam filter to accept only email from people you know, other than that, if you figure it out, let me know!

Well the Reverend Bayes a nice Presbyterian minister wrote a nifty little trick to tackle your problem.
Some nice folks have it available over at Sourceforge.

I hope it helps.
It takes a week or two for it to learn how you want it to behave, but it works really well after that.

One good thing about my slow but sure dialup is they filter almost ALL of my spam mail and put it in a separate mail box I log onto to read....cuz....sumtimes mail I do want gets sent there by accident. I get a message ever so often I have mail to go thru. But I have been gettin a few on mail order drugs lately......"everytime" I do a search on here I get it and somehow a few of them get thru. But beats the hundreds that don't !!!!! I probly get 20 to 40 a day !! I hate the ones about pleaseing a women Pam

I get a lot too but my spam filter is doing well now. Not many get into my inbox. I glance at it though in case not just foes wind up in th spam file. Sometimes I look one over by hitting properties and message source. It's a way to remain a spam Nazi.
I get about 40 spams a day, I think

I recently installed Brightmail anti-spam antivirus and my spam has gone down from 50 plus per day (viagra, drugs, porn etc) to about 1 a week and hopefully they will fix thos too soon.
I get daily upgrades. Cost me about $25 and was worth every cent.
Might be worth a try.

I do have a slightly different question:
How can I spam somebody?
I sold this girl something, I am stupid and sent it to her before I received payment, (I know, it is my fault and I will never do it again...), and I have her email address, and postal address, and I thought , "well, she owes me £25, I could get £25 worth of entertainment from spamming her email, and even her post box." Does anyone know how I can do it?
Is that too cruel? Is revenge wrong?

Start out by getting 2 new email addresses.
1 will be a junk address. The other will be the one you actually use.
When ever you are doing something that requires an email address, use the junk one.
It seems like everything you do any more requires that you give an email address. I guess that everybody is now in the spam business.
Never EVER use your real email address for anything and only give it to people you trust.
Once you are on a spam list, you will never get off of it.
Turn on the filters.

Thunderbird has a Bayesian style spam filter, and its free:

The Spam filter is programmed with a basic set of rules for identifying unwanted messages but it will also 'learn' how to deal with new ones as and when they arrive by monitoring your actions - right click on unwanted messages and mark them as 'Junk'. The Junk Mail controls are on the Tools menu and you have the option to automatically move flagged messages to a folder for later scrutiny or simply delete them straight away.
The only significant OE feature not supported by Thunderbird is the is the ability to read webmail, including of course MS Hotmail but this is a very small price to pay. Who knows, if enough people make the move it could have an impact on the volume of viruses and spam we all have to deal with, unless of course it becomes a big enough target for hackers so get in quick, while it still works so well.
