Need some advice about a fever

I've had this low-grade fever for 2 weeks now. Just now it read 99.9, and it has been in the 99's for the past couple weeks. I don't really have any symptoms. My glands have felt a little swollen in my neck on and off, but it really isn't all that bad. I don't have a cold or anything. Only thing I really feel is "feverish" and kinda run down and tired. Other than that...I'm fine. Do you think this is something I should be concerned about? I guess I could try to see a doctor at student health on Tuesday if I needed to. Can't figure out why I have this fever, though! Any advice would be appreciated! Lizzie

It is likely an infection having something to do with the 'In the Mood' songs thread. Penicillin should help. As a preventative, avoid cavorting with unsavory company.

I would say if it's been 2 weeks, it wouldn't hurt to see a doc...infections are nothing to mess around with Be well, Kev

As a nursing student, you should know that a fever is a sign that your body is fighting off some kind of infection. A fever that lasts for 2 weeks is something I would check out with my doc. Gator

Thanks for the advice, and yeah Gator I know I'm a nursing student, but as a nurse...I'm trained not to freak out over stuff too! hehe Usually we don't even give tylenol for a fever unless it is over 101.1, but it's been 2 weeks which is why I started to wonder. I have no appetite really, which is unusual for me. I guess that's the only other "symptom." Wrokk, it's not THAT kind of infection! ROFL I thought (and boys, you might want to skip over this part LOL) that the fever might have been from taking provera. I hadn't had *that* cycle since April (and no...not pregnant), so my doctor put me on provera (progesterone) for a week to start up the cycle. We thought maybe when I started lithium that it caused some problems in that area. The fever started right after I started the provera. Technically it is supposed to jump start a cycle within 2-5 days of going off it. Today is day 5 and nothing yet. Guess I gotta get to a doc on Tuesday when the offices open up again! Ugh...get tired of being sick sometimes!! Lizzie

I agree: Even if it's a low-grade temperature, you need to get it checked out, even if only for peace of mind. The Provera may have something to do with it, though: Your body temperatures fluctuate according to hormonal levels. Just ask anyone who is having a hard time conceiving a child, and they'll tell you all about monitoring their body temperatures... Anyway... But do get it checked out, get some blood drawn, and get your CBC and hematocrit checked, okay?

| I'm not suggesting you should run around screaming in panic, hun. Just that as the thread has developed you have told us more and more symptoms other than just fever. There's the fever, the swollen glands, the feeling run down/tired and the loss of appetite. I am glad you decided to see a doc on Tuesday. Don't forget to tell him ALL your symptoms. It may be nothing and I hope that is the case. Hope you have a wonderful weekend in spite of it all. Gator
