For those who gave me med advice quickly

I saw my doctor yesterday and we decided to go with the imitrex nasal spray. Also a perscription for some 02. I had an attack this morning and did the nasal spray. I was really happy to find out that my headache was gone in 15 minutes and relief started after the first 10 minutes. Usually I am hair pulling and icing for an hour waiting for pills to kick in. The only draw back is the price. I paid $92.00 for 6 shots of Imitrex. So in closing I would like to thank all that repied and gave me the advice that I needed quickly. Cheers to all and I hope that all of you have the sucess that I have had this morning. Dave

Read some of the posts regarding injection-based aborts. Some (ie Me) can really stretch their supply by working out their own minimum effective dose. Others do need the entire dose though. I do Imitrex vials, getting 3+ doses per 'single dose' vial. Far faster than pills... perhaps a bit faster than nasal. Luck.

Also... I see you have aborts now. Going to give any preventatives a shot? Useful Link --->>> http://www.future-drugs.com/admin/articlefile/ERN020304.pdf (The O2 numbers in that link are a bit low, based on the consensus of us at this site. 15 l/min seems to be the ticket.)

I agree with RL, the injection is the quickest way for me. I've done the 2mg and 3mg stretch and find that in the middle of the night it is easier to just jab the stat pen in my stomach and have a full 6mg. The 3mg is better for during the day when you can catch it early. $92 isn't bad for 6 NS, the last box I picked up without insurance was $135. Glad you and your doc are on the same page. The O2 is awesome, see if you can get some small tanks for work and it will help tremendously.

Interesting document that you attached Rock. I didn't read all of it yet but looks good for what I did read. Since I am an eposodic for now I think that I will refrain from the preventatives and see how long this cycle lasts. For now I have been doing really well (this year) until yesterday ha ha ha Also I need to research a bit more. I was at this site a few months ago but my password didn't work this time that is why I had to re-register and am now tagged as a newbie. cheers, Dave

GSK has a program in place to get you more Imitrex at reduced cost. I'm trying to find the link for you now. I believe there is a 800 number you can call. Couldn't find the link , but Iknow that they have coupons and a program in place to help people get Imitrex. Go to Imitrex.com for more information. Sorry I couldn't find it

Dave, I see you are in Victoria, are you not covered via medical insurance? For me it took a while but I can submit my receipts and get re-imbursed for the imitrex... How are you paying for the o2, it should be the same as the imitrex...I would hope Just a thought for you Andrea

Broomhilda I am not covered as of yet where I work but that will change very shortly. I used to be a self employed fishman for most of my life and now I am a computer programmer analyst at the hospital. In another month I will have enough time in that they will give me all of my benifits. (ie medical, dental, sick leave) Dave

| That is the strategy I choose also, no prevents, just abort the attacks during cycle. As long as the cycle stays relatively short (longest one I ever had was 6 weeks) I feel I can deal with the few breakthrough headaches in return for not having to take any extra meds and deal with their side effects. I hope this strategy works for you.
