Am I really this old? (not ch)

Quote Quote Modify Modify

The following was sent to me ...  I hate to say it, but I remember ALL of the following!
Quote:

MEMORIES from a friend:

My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to "sprinkle" clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

How many do you remember?

Head lights dimmer switches on the floor.
Ignition switches on the dashboard.
Heaters mounted on the inside of the fire wall.
Real ice boxes.
Pant leg clips for bicycles without chain guards.
Soldering irons you heat on a gas burner.
Using hand signals for cars without turn signals.

Older Than Dirt Quiz: Count all the ones that you remember not the ones you were told about Ratings at the bottom.

1. Blackjack chewing gum
2. Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water
3. Candy cigarettes
4. Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles
5. Coffee shops or diners with tableside juke boxes
6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers
7. Party lines
8. Newsreels before the movie
9. P.F. Flyers
10. Butch wax
11. Telephone numbers with a word prefix (OLive-6933)
12. Peashooters
13. Howdy Doody
14. 45 RPM records
15. S&H Green Stamps
16. Hi-fi's
17. Metal ice trays with lever
18. Mimeograph paper
19. Blue flashbulb
20. Packards
21. Roller skate keys
22. Cork popguns
23. Drive-ins
24. Studebakers
25. Wash tub wringers

If you remembered 0-5 = You're still young
If you remembered 6-10 = You are getting older
If you remembered 11-15 = Don't tell your age,
If you remembered 16-25 = You're older than dirt!

I might be older than dirt but those memories are the best part of my life.

Damn, maybe my kids are right .... I AM OLDER THAN DIRT!!!

Chuck, except for the Packards, I can remember quite vividly every one from the "older than dirt quiz".   Embarassed

I must be older than at least six inches of dirt.   Shocked

I’m older than dirt. I can remember every thing on the list.

Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it. or Nesbitts

Ignition switches on the dashboard. And a pushbotton to start the car

7. Party lines We had those. If the number ended with a letter, 123-J, it was aparty line. If it was just numbers 123 it was a private line and you were rich people. And, of course, no dial. You had to ask the operator for a number.

8. Newsreels before the movie and a cartoon or 3. About 4 hours at the movies on Saturday afternoon cost a quarter. Popcorn was a dime.

10. Butch wax and Pomade to style the DA.

11. Telephone numbers with a word prefix (OLive-6933) Ours was Cypress.

14. 45 RPM records and the little plastic doo-hickey that you could put in the big center hole to be able to play it an a multispeed record player.

20. Packards and Hudsons

21. Roller skate keys Did you ever nail those roller skates to a 2X4 to make a skate board?

24. Studebakers for you youngsters, Studebaker made a pickup truck that was way ahead of it’s time. It looked like the Dodge pickups today. Butt Ugly!

What about "goose grease" and "dippety do"

Best memory is of the washing machine wringer, was helping Mama with the wash, she went to the front porch to meet the "Community coffee" delivery man, I screwed up feeding clothes by my self and fed fingers! Damn thing was chewing on my shoulder when she got back, then couldn't get it to realease! Smiley

God. I forgot that Chuck is so so so very very very old probably because I'm too old remember much. I do remember all that list though.

We had a 1951 and a 1953 Packard. My uncle had a terrific looking Hudson. Everyone laughed at Studes.

Pepsi was "twice as much for a nickel too," and you could get soda from machines that opened from the top and you had to slide your bottles along a track to get them out.

Motel room tvs with quarter slots for 1/2 hour that cut out in 20 minutes.

We had an egg man too. Came every week.

How are you doing Chuck?

Back then it was just part of growing up.

Today the kid would call the cops and report child abuse and the parent would be arrested. The child would be taken to a foster home and the parent to jail.

OMG!!!

I knew I was feeling like I am getting old, but DAMN!
I remember most of that shit from when I was a kid.

Also remember the old beercans that had the pull-off tab that my idiot redneck uncles would stick back into the can.
Also can't forget:

Rotary Dial Phones.
Penny candy
Wind-up record players
When your record player had the settings 16/33/45/78
B&W TV's
A Snickers bar was a dime
Burger Chef with kids meals featuring Chef and Jeff
Plaid suits - EWWWWW!
Weebles
KISS bubble-gum trading cards
The rumor that Gene Simmons shoved a pool-cue stick down Shaun Cassidy's throat
The rumor that Rod Stewart had his stomache pumped for semen indigestion (LMAO!)
The rumor that KISS was actually the Brady kids grown up with Danny Bonaduce as Ace Frehley
Joannie loves Chachi
When it cost a dime to use the payphone
"Pong" was considered "Hi-Tech" and an Atari 2600 was God-like
Billy Jack WAS God
Drive-In Theatres with the shitty window-hung speakers
Jesus Christ Superstar was very controversial
DC Comics
Cereal boxes that had cardboard playable records you could cut-out. Still have a Monkees/Kelloggs record somewhere.
Knob dial TV's (mine just died - R.I.P.)
8-Track tapes
Reel to Reel tape players
A.M. only car radios
Milkmen & Milkmaids
Console Stereos that took up half the living room
Butterfly rimmed glasses
Western Flyer bicycles
You could smoke ANYWHERE - even in the doctor's office
Buying smokes at 10 years old
HR Puffenstuff
Land of the Lost
Heckyll & Jeckyll
Elvis trading cards
Evel Kneivel
Michael Jackson was black...

...sheeesh... now I DO feel old!
Talk about a brutal trip down memory lane.
I need a beer!

I doubt it. It had the consistency of candle wax.
My mother would get pissed at my brother and I for not washing our hair every night. The Butch Wax would rub off on the pillow and was impossible to launder out.
