Ok, what do you do when your 1yr old son dumps a full glass of water all over your open laptop and after you clean up the mess, press the button to turn it on.... and nothing happens? I have a Dell Inspiron 1100. I swear to God something does NOT want me to have a computer....I may end up never being on a computer again.... *sigh* thanks for any help in advance.. mel

Let it dry first...& then try it. Is it still under warranty? If so, act dumb & tell them it just won't work. Just make sure there isn't any left over moisture when you send it back. Good Luck,

Mel... Don't give up. If you think it's screwed already, what harm can you do? Open it up and try to clean it up. Laptops are a PITA to get opened though. There are a lot of hidden screws and stuff. Good Luck!!! I once dropped an entire opened can of Coke directly onto the motherboard of a system I was working on and was running at the time. Coke spilled all over it. I unplugged it right away and then took it apart so I could rinse off the pop with a wet rag and clean everything off. After it all dried out, I put it back together and tried it out. To make a long story short, I continued using the system for 1 more year after that. I still have that mother board as a keep sake. Pat

Jimmy, I am going to let it dry, which will probably take some time... (and no, it isn't under warrenty) I have it open with the battery pulled out and inverted so any extra water drips out. Is it best to be inverted or on it's side for that? OMG, if it doesn't work, that's it. I am not getting another computer. I guess I'll just have to use my daughters ancient one from now on, and on this thing there's only so much I can do... I'll have to stop doing any other activities, I think some know what I'm talking about, because I don't have the certain capacities on this thing that I did on my laptop. Pouring money down the tube with the luck I got just isn't feasible. I'm gonna go watch a movie now, Kill Bill Volume 2... have a good day all. mel

| Personally I would never allow my one year old to surf the net while drinking a glass of water.

Yep... dry it out. Unhook all power sources from it, such as the AC adapter. Remove the battery. Power + wet laptop == bad. Let it dry... put it out in the sun. Do not throw it at your husband while it is drying. If it is easy to pull the case off then do that. The longer water soaks in... the lower the chance it will work again.

GUESS WHAT?? aaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahaha I'm on my laptop! woooohoooo!! FINALLY something good has happened to me! It's been awhile. Anyway, after letting it dry for about an hour, THEN taking it all apart to make sure there was no water left lying around, I put the thing all back together, stuck the battery in before using A/C power, and pushed the button....voila! Green light comes on, powering up and Windoze begins!! YAY!! Thanks everyone for your help, but I gotta say, it makes me feel good that I was able to fix it on my own by doing a little net search with these words "Water in laptop". hehe I'm SO happy!! (and I'm never leaving ANYTHING near my puter that has moisture again!). I was ready to throw Eli out the door, until he handed me some garbage off the floor and smiled at me, LMAO! mel BTW, it's time for me to do a backup of my HD, so Eli and I are gonna go watch Kill Bill while it's dong that. *snicker*
