Just curious what song move you.

Joe Nichols - If nobody Believed in you
JoDee Messina - Bring on the Rain
Tim McGraw -  Don't Take the Girl
Sarah McGlachlan - Angel

Dusty Drake - One last Time  Cry
http://www.xdup.com/etc/(dusty_drake)-one_last_time.mp3
When she picked up the telephone
His voice came on the line
She said this can't be happening
And tears fell from her eyes
She said 'What am I supposed to do
I can't handle losing you?'
He said 'I just had to call and say goodbye
One last time'

He said 'There are some things in this life
That are out of our control
Like who we fall in love with
And when it's time to go'

She said 'What about the plans we had'
He said 'This connection's gettin' bad
Now, c'mon baby let me hear you smile
One last time'

She started to apologize for
All the things that she'd done wrong
She said 'I would've loved you better
If only I'd known'

He said 'You were the perfect wife
Promise me you'll gon on with your life'
She says 'The boys won't understand'
He says 'Tell them Daddy loves them and Be strong'

He said 'Hon, I've gotta go'
She said 'Don't you dare hang up
There's so many things I need to say
I love you so (much)"

It was almost like she felt him leave
She cried out 'Can you still hear me'
She fell down on the kitchen floor
When the signal died
As the pilot tried to pull out of the dive
One Last ....

Elton John-Butterfly (Someone Saved My Life, Tonight)

I never realised the passing hours of evening showers.
A slip noose hanging in my darkest dreams.
I’m strangled by your haunted social scene.
Just a pawn out-played by a dominating queen.
It’s four o’clock in the morning.
Damn it listen to me good.
I’m sleeping with myself tonight.
Saved in time, thank God my music’s still alive.

And I would have walked head on into the deep end of the river.
Clinging to your stocks and bonds.
Paying your h.p. demands forever.
They’re coming in the morning with a truck to take me home.
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight.
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight.
Someone saved my life tonight.
So save your strength and run the field you play alone.

"You know who" has me wide awake at 5:56am after maybe an hour that seemed like a minute....
WTF???
Is there something in the air tonight?
Seems my spirit took a nosedive about 2am...(long story...)

Prolly show my age here a bit on this one, as I cross a couple of genres of music.

1. Hurt - Nine Inch Nails
2. The Great Gig In The Sky - Pink Floyd
3. Fade To Black - Metallica
4. If It Be Your Will - Leonard Cohen
5. The Sounds of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
6. Mama Liked The Roses - Elvis Presley (I have not been able to listen to this song since my mom was buried in 1993 - probably the saddest song there is in my world)
7. Coma Black - Marilyn Manson
8. Shades of Gray - The Monkees (shut up Jonny Grin )
and a song that was lingering in my head when I was trying to sleep (and ironically got out of bed to read this and got a weird feeling...)
Really feeling like an old folkie/folgie on this one...

Ode To Billy Joe
(B. Gentry,1967)

It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and we walked back to the house to eat
And mama hollered at the back door "y'all remember to wipe your feet"
And then she said she got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge
Today Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

Papa said to mama as he passed around the blackeyed peas
"Well, Billy Joe never had a lick of sense, pass the biscuits, please"
"There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow"
Mama said it was shame about Billy Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge

And brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billy Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night?
"I'll have another piece of apple pie, you know it just don't seem right"
"I saw him at the sawmill yesterday on Choctaw Ridge"
"And now you tell me Billy Joe's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?"
"I've been cookin' all morning and you haven't touched a single bite"
"That nice young preacher, Brother Taylor, dropped by today"
"Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday, oh, by the way"
"He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge"
"And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge"

A year has come 'n' gone since we heard the news 'bout Billy Joe
Brother married Becky Thompson, they bought a store in Tupelo
There was a virus going 'round, papa caught it and he died last Spring
And now mama doesn't seem to wanna do much of anything
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' flowers up on Choctaw Ridge
And drop them into the muddy water off the Tallahatchie Bridge

Odd - I don't know why in blue blazes fuck THAT song came to mind at 2am. I guess you could say right now I got something else on my heart and mind. Can't eat, can't sleep (obviously the brain won't shut off and when it does the beast sets off all sirens.) I don't get this feeling very often but when I do - I don't like it. I don't like the jitters like I just had six pots of coffee intravenously and I don't like the lump in my throat I can't swallow...Telling myself I'm going back to bed when I'm super-wide awake...rrrrrriiiiiiiiite!!!
They say remain silent and be thought a fool rather than speak and leave no doubt - but I am one who hates to leave anything to chance. Grin
I'm shuttin' the fuck up and going to my happy place - Whogivesafuckville!

Carl

P.S. - I'll go download some Bay City Rollers and Brady Bunch tunes, 'get happy' and be all better.  Roll Eyes

P.S.S. - Sleep Deprivation SUCKS SALTED SNAILJUICE!!!

Well, I've been told to avoid sad songs, but here are my sad favorites

Down to Seeds and Stems Again Blues
by Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen

Your Latest Trick
by Dire Straits

Imagine
by John Lennon - probably not normally thought of as a sad song, but Neil Young's version of it during a 911 tribute was sad indeed.

Happy Birthday
I turn 50 in January  Grin

Riding on a high and windy day
Riding my troubles away

Nobody knows the pain I feel
Nobody knows my misery
I wear a smile upon my face
Anyway

And now I'm riding on a high and windy day
Deep in the month of May
Riding on a high and windy day

I've got a feeling I can't deny
I'm all alone and I want to cry
But I'm still a man and I can't deny
My pride

Um, okay - Do I buy a lottery ticket today or open an umbrella indoors?
This is seriously fuckin with me and the lack of sleep ain't helping any...
I'll explain the 'long story' albeit try to be brief...

One thing egging me the past 2 days is - today is the 19th anniversary of my best friend in youth, Calvin Lewis's passing. I haven't been to his grave in years, and it was bugging me for a long while last night while sleep gang-mocked my attempts to reach Z's. We had a circle of friends that would go to his grave on this day every year. The two songs we used to crank all the time were "Holiday" By The Scorpions (his favorite band) and "Goodbye to Romance" from Ozzy - my childhood fave featuring the prodigy guitar styling of my hero Randy Rhoads. I had an mp3 disc playing when I got into the shower a bit ago, and guess what song was playing when I re-read this thread????????

DID I SLIP INTO THE FUCKING TWILIGHT ZONE OR WHAT???

Carl - who is afraid to leave the apartment in case this is a bad omen....
Maybe I finally fell asleep and am dreaming this?

This one always makes me cry every time I hear it....

The Good Stuff
by Kenny Chesney

Well me and my lady had our first big fight
So I drove around till I saw the neon lights
at a corner bar
It just seemed right, so I pulled up
Not a soul around but the old bar keep
down at the end lookin' half asleep
He walked up and said "What'll it be?"
I said,''The good stuff"
He didn't reach around for the whiskey
He didn't pour me a beer
His blue eyes kind of went misty
He said, "You can't find that here."

Cause its the first long kiss on a second date
your momma's all worried when you get home late
Droppin the ring in the spaghetti plate
cause your hands are shakin so much
It's the way that she looks with the rice in her hair
Eatin' burnt suppers the whole first year
and askin for seconds to keep her from tearin' up
Yeah man, that's the good stuff

He grabbed a carton of milk
and he poured a glass
then I smiled and said,
"I'll have some of that."
We sat there and talked as an hour passed
like old friends
Saw a black and white picture and it caught my stare
It was a pretty girl with bouffant hair
He said, "That's my Bonnie, taken 'bout a year after we wed."
He said, "Spent 5 years in the bottle, when the cancer took her from me,
But Ive been sober 3 years now
'Cause the one thing stronger than the whiskey

Was the sight of her holdin' my baby girl
The way she adored that string of pearls
I gave her the day that our youngest boy Earl,
married his high school love
and it's a new t-shirt saying "I'm a grandpa"
and being right there as our time got small,
And holdin her hand when the good Lord called her up
Yeah man, That's the good stuff

He said, ''When you get home she'll start to cry,
When she says, ''Im sorry,'' say ''So am I''
Then look into those eyes so deep in love
and drink it up
'Cause thats the good stuff
That's the good stuff

Echo, that's pretty cool... Smiley

Here is one more song for me....

Wind Beneath My Wings
by Bette Midler

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strain.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the Wind Beneath My Wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the Wind Beneath My Wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the Wind Beneath My Wings,
'cause you are the Wind Beneath My Wings.

You could be my silver spring
Blue-green colors flashing
I would be your only dream
Your shining over ocean crashing

Don't say that she's pretty
And did you say that she loved you
Baby I don't want to know

So I begin not to love you
Turn 'round, see me running
I say I loved you years ago
But tell myself you never loved me no

And don't say that she's pretty
And did you say that she loved you
Baby I don't want to know

Oh no
And can you tell me was it worth it
Baby I don't want to know

Time cast a spell on you
But you won't forget me
I know I could have loved you
But you would not let me

Time cast a spell on you
But you won't forget me
I know I could have loved you
But you would not let me

I follow you down 'till the sound
Of my voice will haunt you
(Give me just a chance)
You'll never get away from the sound
Of the woman who loves you
(Was I just a fool)

I follow you down 'till the sound
Of my voice will haunt you
(Give me just a chance)
You'll never get away from the sound
Of the woman who loves you
(Was I just a fool)

Some of my favorite "sad songs" do not have words.  It is the music that makes them so sad!  Here are a few that I love:

"Adagio for Strings" - Barber
"Symphony No. 7, Mvt II" - Beethoven
"Ghost Piano Trio, Mvt II" - Beethoven
"Prelude in b-flat minor, WTC Book I" - Bach

To name a few...! Smiley
