This was actually done on purpose by me at my work bench so I could test a new version of Ad-aware. I have seen people on staff here come pretty close though. One of my techs and I decided to try and fill up the entire screen with toolbars and had a lot of success. We had to quit though. There was so much going on with all of the toolbars and spyware that came with them that the system started getting I/O errors repeatedly. The new version of Ad-aware cleaned it up retty good. It did leave some stuff that I was able to remove by making some registry tweaks and deleting some files. Pat BTW: Root.... I didn't know what PEBKAC meant so I googled it. I think that we will be using it a lot in our work order resolutions now. LMAO

lol! The college girl next door had me look at slow response time problems over the weekend. She had 4 toolbars plus the 6-inch-long tray-fulla-shit. Has anyone fixed a machine that did NOT have mywebsearch, smileycentral, weatherbug and gator/gain? I am so phucking tired of seeing those.

Hey Rock... I've put a hosts file on our staff systems here that won't even allow access to most of the known URLs for some of this stuff. It's been a long time since I've had to deal with smileycentral or gator/gain.

That custom hosts file is a good idea. Back in the early days of popups there used to be a frequently-updated hosts file going around to block the most common popup servers. Worked for a year or so... now just too many to track... plus many are served off unsuspecting infected hosts. But I like the idea for the key spyware sites.
